That was the week that was

August 8, 2010 by

There has been a noticeable absence of girl news this week – this being entirely due to there being a notable lack of girl. In order for me to have a little head space, but also do some heavy work on our websites and for the girls to have some fun but also a little break from me and everything that home has meant recently, they went off on 5 days of a day camp.

It was the first time Josie had done anything like this and I was very proud of her for coping so well; she has changed hugely in the last 4 months. If Freddie was here we’d say it was because of him but she’s changed anyway. She is just far more grown up now. She had a lot of fun, joined in, didn’t wobble and is looking forward to going again. She missed a day due to a sudden tummy bug which Fran also caught but it was a big success.

The others had been before – they seemed to have fun too and are hoping to go again soon. For my part I had a break from home and didn’t cry all week, did masses of work involving lots of ways of saying wooden train set and wooden toy food and orchestrated a slight redesign of the front page of PlayMerrily. All good fun. Was pleasant to have concentrated time on that and do a full weeks work (first time since Fran was born!) in a place that was non-threatening and mine and which Max has got so well organised. Enjoyed it very much.

The weekend before we had a lovely party with friends and the girls all made their own dressing up clothes for it on the theme of animals.

Amelie was a tiger.

Josie was a penguin.

Fran was a meerkat.

Maddy stole our personal show with a golden eagle outfit.

Big children that can do this stuff without me are excellent, I must admit.

Sunday we went to the Shuttleworth collection for their airshow. I always have my favourites at these but this year an amazing aerobatic glider really stole the show. It was incredible.

Girls dotted between us and their fabulous playground. Equally nice to be able to send them off to just enjoy that. I’m much better not looking to be honest 😆

Maddy has been to TKD, Fran is driving us mad with The Entertainer and Amelie is doing similar with Greensleeves. Back to gym now but we’ve had a quietish weekend with bedroom tidying and puppet show designing which Fran has interspersed with reading the last Harry Potter book avidly. Today Max and Maddy went back to rugby and this evening we watch the first hour of LOTR with them, as a substitute for Doctor Who/Merlin and to have some family time together. We thought we could do that for a few weeks till Saturday evening tv starts up again.
