The best of the rest of 2006

January 1, 2007 by

We’ve managed to drag the festivities out nicely, though i still feel slightly like Christmas was half over by the time i stopped working; next year i’m going to make my last posting date earlier and fully reclaim my last week for the children. I do feel i have rather a lot of making up to do to them really as i was exhausted and dishevelled by the 19th and even then it didn’t really stop. Silly me. Must get priorities right in future.

We had some other lovely presents that we’ve all enjoyed; The Portico sent us a set of Nurse Matilda books, which will remind me evermore of Gwenny informing me that Parent 1 had banned them all ever seeing Nanny MacPhee and me being so astonished by this news that i had to go and check if a) it was true and b) if it was true, was it on moral or literary grounds? 😆 Turned out to be literary and i corrupted them by putting it on anyway. Fran took the books off upstairs and has made a determined start on them but i’m planning on making them bedtime stories for a while.

We’ve all been enjoying the Secret Santa Bathbombs, so thank you for that 🙂

G+G, aided and abeited by my Nana, supplied the girls with a variety of craft and science kits, plus a microscope, so those have kept them busy and it’s been nice to see them happy to get on being creative with that. Max and i have had chilling time, i’ve tidied and pruned a good bit (still got bookshelves to do though) and we’ve rearranged bedrooms (again) and changed the places things live. We’ve all eaten way too much chocolate, Max has got hooked on Age of Empires on the (read on MY) DS and i’ve battled with computerised accounting. And Sworn. Quite A LOT. I even shocked Claire at one point 😆

The Playmobil has been a huge hit, with Josie particularly enjoying making up little fields of animals eating veg, the ipod was worth its weight in gold and the dolls and castle are immensely popular. When all else fails, dvds and films we can now record go down very well too but the dvd family quiz and Bomberman for the gamecube (we don’t wii here, except for Josie who prefers to just wee… 🙄 ) have been brilliant fun. Max and i played Bomberman till the early hours the other night.

Me, i’m aching to get back to some home ed now. We had a bit of a snowflake theme before Xmas so i might continue that and do some of the science and maths of it; i’ve got some borax too so maybe some crystal growing would be good. We’ve got a month before our first holiday, so i’d like to fit in something memorable between now and then.

We ended up finishing off the year utterly superbly with The Beans and i really enjoyed that. Lovely to do something different, lovely to have easy company and a relative break from the effort of entertaining children, given how little we all saw of them and and nice to end the year on a (Baileys soaked) high, without a tear in sight 🙂

Soem sleep would have been nice, but neither Josie nor BB (the noctural twins 🙄 ) seemed to think that was important!

Thank you to Chris and Helen for the excellent hosting 🙂
