Round up of a holiday week.

July 7, 2006 by

I couldn’t blog like this, i forget things that happen in a day, a whole week is going to be impossible!

Right, with the benefit of a months worth of flickring to back me up…..

Sunday – tidied stock room

Spent day working at the 32 point long jobs list and reduced it to managable heap of stuff that still needs to be done. Hurrah. Was a hot day and had all the windows opened and was entertained all day by the group of people doing some kind of adult majorette type thing with huge flags and brass bands practising for something on the ground at the back. Was lovely to listen to and watch for the day; i love living here for things like that. It is like we have an ever changing backdrop of events to amuse us.

Ended the day traumatised by the rotting of my Animal Crossing turnips after i did a bit of time travelling so i could play at the end of my long day of work. Sob.

Monday – first day of Max’s holiday so we all tripped off to Wicksteed Park for the day. It was boiling, but we had a blast, and some stuff, like all being able to go down the big slide together, without me being hugely pregnant or with a tiny baby at the bottom, was fun 🙂 In fact, we ended up doing 3 day trips this week, and the buggy didn’t come out of the car once. That was a milestone in its own right.

Picnicking in the shade, meeting Wicky Bear (giggle) balloon art and Josie on the swing and enjoying her first rides. Lovely.

Tuesday – revisiting the Butterfly Park at Amelie’s request, despite that long ago ‘bug in mouth’ episode!

A whole load of cute ones of her near this one 🙂

Oh how she laughed and squealed with glee 🙂

Trying, but not really pulling off, Mr Portico’s blurry background thing.

When you think “have i got this one in my catalogue?” you know you’ve played too much Animal Crossing 😉

Maddy and i got to see a banana tree and discuss the mystery of banana seeds some more. I ruined her week by cutting the bottoms off one of my two favourite (identical) pairs of trousers to make bearable shorts. (But i don’t look convincingly chic in hacked off clothing like Alison does 😉 )

And she recognised the hissing cockroaches too.

And we may have had an icecream to two as well.

Wednesday – Decided to use our National Trust tickets for a different day. Took ourselves to Woolsthorpe Manor, the birthplace and home of Issac Newton, for the day accidentally meeting up with our local HE group who were also there! As well as looking around his house, including is graffitti pictures on the walls (!) we also got to take a photo by “the” apple tree

DSCF4705
or rather an appletree that grew out of the stump of the original one. Then we went to the science workshoppy thing out the back where they had lots of forces stuff set up that was all very hands on and enjoyable. Fran got plenty out of it, Maddy and bit and Amelie and Josie liked making mess and noise 😉

Later in the afternoon we went further up the A1 to belton House, a haunt of mine as a child and they played in the adventure playground there. Lovely and very silly game of dragons in the wooden castle, much swinging and sliding and pole-climbing.

Thursday – kids all got to that “fallen asleep at the end of long days in the car, then stayed awake too long in the evening when we’re tired but not sleepy” bit of the week and caved in, so we all stayed home and pottered about watching films, drawing, reading, playing and so on. I did a rush job for a new customer who will hopefully turn out to be a good one, talked to a web designer about BM and generally enjoyed just all being together.

Today – parcels to catch up on, chatted to some suppliers about some things, chatted to neighbour, FIL came over and enthused about HE and talked business with me (he has finally noticed i’m running a successful business i think!) Max took the car for a £70 exhaust job which turned out to be a £500 one 😕 Hey ho. Maddy found an apple seed and wanted to plant it so she did, in the molehill which very unreasonably appeared in our flowerbed this morning and made a very lovely sign to tell us where it is! So then she and i read “The Carrot Seed” together and then she drew her own version of it. Then she went to bits, as she was starting too yesterday, over something. Bit concerned that Maddy seems very stressed and missionless at the moment and also that she is expressing some feelings about not having enough friends.

And now i’m going to… erm… i know, i’ll go and sell my turnips 😉

Mmmmmm….. oh well, it hasn’t cost us anything for a year, so it could be worse. it’s, i dunno, 8 years old? so i guess the exhaust was going to go sometime.

We bought it for £5k and it has cost an extra £2k in repairs in 2 years, so i suppose it isn’t totally awful.

nice update – sounds like a fantastic week. I love that pic of Fran and there’s a lovely one of Maddy in your flickr set too – your girls are very gorgeous 🙂

I hope you don’t mind but I downloaded your butterfly pics for a future project – and the one of those beautiful flowers I pinched for my desktop backgroud – shout at me if your cross and I’ll delete them – just they were SO good 🙂

Grin, it is just fine Caroline; glad you like them. Actually, there are two more sets of photos from that place on flickr withm ore butterflies. The cameras were not quite so sharp but i think they came out okay if you want more.
