This is bizarre, isn't it?

Japanese Male Heir crisis

Maybe i’m missing something here, i mean, maybe i really am rather than in a sarcastic “i know i’m not” way.

But surely, there is no possibility that the Crown Prince’s Wife doesn’t know that sex is determined by the man and therefore there is very little she can do about it? Or are they suggesting she can’t carry males? Either way, surely the 21st century doesn’t still have to be plagued with the whole “you will be made to suffer for not bearing me a male” thing?

Sounds like a rule change might be a good idea. Wonder what the eldest girl thinks of that????

As the whole idea of a monarchy sucks in my opinion, any argument about a line of sucession is a moot point.

That *is* bizarre – Japan is such a different place, such a mixture of the old and the new.

If monarchies do still persist, I would wish that they were as fair as possible. (i.e. not like ours either!)

Yes, i agree (with Alison more than Simon though, i quite enjoy the tradition of monarchy even if ours are a bit mental) – I’d quite like to see Beatrice and Eugenie on the throne!

I would be happy to have a monarchy if it were an optional extra in terms of tax. So those who like the tradition can pay for it, and the rest can spend the tax on themselves or something more worthwhile. And no-one do the tourist revenue line, or I will shoot them….

I think we should have a lottery for King/Queen about every ten years. Now that would raise a lot of foreign currency. Just think, we could have a Rastafarian King, that would add the “Royal I and I” to our vocabulary. Or maybe a German Queen with a Greek husband ….. 😉

Seems a slightly extreme reaction to shoot people just for mentioning tourism. Bad day? 😉

What would fran learn about if we didn’t have 1200 years of British Monarchy?!

BTW Chris P, pleeease could you email me from a real email that won’t get you sacked so i can ask you a VIQ.

“What would fran learn about if we didn’t have 1200 years of British Monarchy?!”

…er… if we dumped the bastards tomorrow those 1200 years would still be there.

I like the comments, Chris tries to rationalise the monarchy in terms of tax. Tim tries to rationalise the monarchy in terms of opportunity. I say modern monarchies are irrational.

    British Republic now!

    Don’t you mean English?
