Halloween is having a bit of a revival here this year as (thanks to the infernal YouTube phenomena that is Blippi!) Bene has really got into the idea and is very excited about being a skeleton while he’s out trick or treating tonight. I’ve been a bit forthright and told the big girls they can accompany him in ordinary clothes and not ask for sweets or dress up properly and partake – so they are making costumes after all!
I’m seeing more and more costume ideas both on Pinterest and in shops that reflect more general dressing up with a spooky twist rather than traditional scary characters. I quite like this – particularly after the experience of Bene being petrified by a gorilla costume this week – so I got Maddy to create some accessories to a costume that are more fairytale than fearsome but still have an Autumnal or Halloween side to them.
So, we give you, an Autumnal Wand and a Halloween wand, made with the supplies from our#BostikBloggers box this month.
I think this is my favourite, a lovely simply combination of fabric leaves, felt, foam and a pipe cleaner all held together with Bostik Glue Dots.
Afterwards Maddy added some trailing ribbon to pretty it up a bit (but refused to be photographed holding it! I just can’t think why.
The whole craft, and also the one below, is constructed in layers so it looks nice and holds together well. The pipe cleaner looks nice in the picture but is too flimsy for proper wand work, so best to wind it round a stick to keep the stripey fun but had some strength.
Of course, you may prefer something a little more traditional; this cute (ish!) little peg doll vampire will be guarding the front door tonight for us. I can always rely on Maddy to provide me with a vampire 😆
This chap is made with red felt wrapped around a peg and stuck down with Glue Dots, foam wings stuck on with a foam pad and a black felt cape. I’m particularly fond of his face.
