Soothing Stitches: Snuggly Crochet Pillow

August 16, 2015 by

I do love a good pillow – ‘cushion bothering’ (hugging and harassing one to combat anxiety) is something I like to do. I’m still busy with my #UseUpYarnYear and this Vintage Chunky Deramores yarn was under my bed and in need of love. I customised a pattern from a book and started blind with a colour and 66 chains. It’s a nice easy stitch (3DCs and then a TC that reaches down to the row below) then a row back of plain DCs afterwards. I started with cream plus 5 colours and picked a colour, followed it with cream and then followed it with 2 pattern rows of 2 colours, followed by another cream. That meant that the colour pairs changed subtly every block, which I love.

It was a nice slow and easy project through a number of very difficult weeks before our holiday, something I could pick up and put down every night without too much thought.. I took the rest of it away with me on holiday and finished it there and then brought it home to attach the sides together and stuff. Yesterday I happened on some half price (£5) large Homebase cushions and bought 2 on a whim (so I will have to make another!) It was the perfect size and will look lovely in the living room.

With a £5 cushion and 7 balls of Vintage Chunks (there was plenty spare of each ball too, probably a 1/4 ball per colour) it is a £25 make, which is pretty good for such a big and luxurious item too. I’m going to look at it a few days then add a picot trim in red I think. I’m very pleased with it.
