Crafty Makes: Ocean Themed Tidy Boxes

April 29, 2015 by

I’m desperately trying to wind some crafting back into my life; Maddy is still my best bet for this, though Josie and Bene are more up for a go than they used to be. This month though, Maddy grabbed the Bostik craft box the minute it arrived and dashed off with it. The theme was ocean and her ideas were golden! With cellophane, glitter, a multitude of  pretty shapes and shells to play with, she was off. As you can see, she came up trumps with a jewellery box and a desk tidy.

First came the painting and drying of the box and 2 tin cans followed by a nifty bit of slicing up. (I love having teens that don’t need supervising!)

IMG_20150428_123331 The slot in the front is to poke ‘things I must not forget’ into, such as receipts, train tickets and letters school should have had back 3 weeks ago. I have no idea what she meant by this at all. 😆

There are also slots in the top for a similar use, although I think a small hole for poking loose change into would work well too. And it would weight it down when my late letters became overwhelmingly heavy. 😆

Then came the decorating. The Bostik Glitter glue came out again and the foam pads held everything else together, including securing the pen pots to the cardboard base. That’s cellophane on the bottom which I have to say is a fabulous crafting material.

The jewellery box was just a plain wooden one we had on hand and is similarly decorated. The glitter letters are always popular here. and the glitter itself held on well with some Glue Stick.

I sourced the materials for this kit so I can tell you my top 5 items for ocean themed crafts are currently:-

  • Cellophane
  • Shells
  • Natural Sponge
  • Glitter
  • Craft Foam

I have an ocean themed Pinterest board (of course!) and you are welcome to link drop your own posts in the comments below.
