Holidays.

July 27, 2014 by

I don’t know how it happened but rugby has become one of the family sports (not me, I refuse to watch it on TV or play it!) but the girls and boy all love it. Last week Fran got picked as part of the under 18 side for the North of England Mixed Squad which is rather fabulous – she plays in the autumn. And they’ve all got the bug.

My little flock. Or not so little.

So we started off the family holidays with an evening (a rare, empty evening) down at the park. They played for hours (I may exaggerate slightly!) and had a lot of fun. And when Josie and Bene got bored – not hard when Bene wants to hold the ball ALL the time – I took them to play in the play park.

Littlest girl. Littlest boy.

She loves him so much.

Push me, mummy! Push me!

Not hard when he is so scrumptious.

The ex home educator in me want to force them to fill their summer with meaningful stuff but the truth is they are all busy most evenings of the week, play insane amounts of sport and read, work and craft a lot anyway. Part of the summer probably has to be about me stepping back and letting them zen out with things other kids do a lot and they almost never do at all. We are quite enjoying printable things though, so these story starters might be fun.

He woke up. He joined in. #netflix #poorly #siblings @netflixuk

There has been deep joy at discovering that Netflix can be accessed from a variety of devices, not least the rather lovely iPad Mini they sent us – which is MY new baby and I LOVE LOVE LOVE! And I hope by the end of the summer they might have felt slightly more compelled to be meaningful on it but right now an awful lot of Bob the Builder, Power Puff Girls, Pokemon and daft films are getting watched. Dear old Bob though, he has a longstanding place in my heart 🙂

I’m breathing through it – they used to have so much free time and now they almost have none. We are taking the iPad with us this week and a laptop and perhaps we will access some of the vast array of documentaries as a family – we all do like them, even if we have less time for family education than we used to.

(But, I have to say, Bob and Thomas have been a godsend while we are packing!)

Disclosure: we are part of Netflix Stream Team which has perks alongside it – all thoughts are my own.
