Soothing Stitches: Finishing a Fabulous Ripple Crochet Cushion.

April 21, 2014 by

I do love having a variety of projects on the go; this one has featured heavily on my Instagram feed (did I mention that the Tots100 made me Instagrammer of the month recently?) since before Xmas. It’s been my easy, no brain required, pick up and crochet when I’m too tired to think project. I have to admit I did find myself bored of it by the end (it got very long because I made it HUGE by accident!) but it has been well worth it.

Wriggle, a #crochet #ripple based on an @janiecrow design from Kaleidoscope is finished and installed on the teens bed. V proud.

Here it is, 60cm+ square and totally gorgeous, installed in Fran and Maddy’s room, ready to become part of their shortly to be commenced boho teenage room redecorate.

The pattern comes, in the main from the Kaleidoscope book by Debbie Abrahams and Jane Crowfoot. I met Debbie at a knitting workshop last summer but this is the first thing I’ve completed. I adore the book though.

You know when you start to wish you'd not started something? #crochet #ripple #itmayneverend

It’s definitely been an “ooooh!” worthy project.

The crochet for the @janiecrow riff on Wriggle from Kaleidoscope is made. Now to turn it into a cushion cover.

I did make my own changes to it though; the pattern is in Rowan Cotton Glace but I did it in Rowan Handknit Cotton and a 4mm hook. I also altered the colours a bit as it was supposed to be a stashbuster. Unfortunately I ended up running out of colours and so buying more (and I always buy two, just in case!) so that didn’t work too well! Still, never mind. If you don’t have the book, you can always find a similar ripple pattern and work from that or JanieCrow (the book author) has an inexpensive downloadable one on her site.

Lovely thing. I’m very pleased with it. Although, having totted it up, if I had bought all the yarn full price and charged £6 an hour labour, I think it would be about £400 to sell! Good job I’m not doing that and hoping to make a living really. And lucky the cushion inside was on sale for £4 😉
