I’ve got lots to say about the rather fabulous event Josie and I attended today at the House of Lords but I’m just too tired and caught up in other things tonight. So here are some pictures of a very special day I spent with my smallest girl, who rarely gets me all to herself and made the absolute most of it today. She was delightful company.
When I am very old, I will look at this photo and remember the look on her face as we emerged from the tube station and she looked up to see the clock tower directly above her. It was magic.
We stood on the bridge, reminiscing about Doctor Who episodes with new broadcasts filmed from the very spot 😉 and looked down the river at the water steps and picked out a place I thought I knew from a film. Later we discovered our day was to be hosted in that exact room.
The freezing mist cloaked the view, which made it somehow all the more special.
My goodness we used to know how to do grand in this country.
We made time for some history… not just the Civil War but also wondering whether our most wonderful building are still standing because men who had no wish to be bombers in the 2nd world war chose to miss them.
Oh Richard… so butch. What a lot there is we don’t know about you.
Not only did we get a tour around the House of Lords and stand in a 900 year old hall and see 700 year old angels, we also got to stand on top of the very spot where Guy Fawkes put his gunpowder. This pleased a small girl who can always ‘Remember, Remember’ her birthday 🙂 And we walked on the very steps where he was sentenced and dragged away to be hanged.
Later on, when we had done the main business of the day, we took ourselves off to Baker Street and visited a very important door.
I think that – and the walk round Regent’s Park – finally topped off an amazing day for her.
I will always remember today Josie. It was one of our best ever.

I remember ‘doing’ London with Chris. Your blog post reminded me of the great days we had; travelled to London and stayed for a week to be able to see as much as possible. Josie will not forget this day and neither will you.

And did you tell her that your daddy looked out over the Thames very near there wondering if you and your mummy would survive YOUR actual birthday….. ?
And we did ….. And I always think about that when I go there
