Promoted Post: Preventing the Spread of Coughs and Colds

December 28, 2013 by

The content below has been written on behalf of Patch of Puddles and contains handy hints on keeping the family healthy in the cough and cold season. As pretty much constant users of Vicks products since roughly 3rd September this year for one or other of us, I’m happy to receive tips. Roll on Spring!

Patti Wood, the author of Success Signals: Understanding body language, suggests that a single sneeze can send 100,000 germs into the air – so you really need to take precautions around the house!

Flu viruses can live for up to 48 hours on hard surfaces and you can catch a virus by inhaling just one droplet from the air…help to protect those around you by keeping a tissue at the ready!

Try our top ways to fight a cold at first sneeze:

1. A blocked nose is one of the most annoying symptoms of the common cold and flu. Using a nasal spray with oxymetazoline such as Vicks Sinex* quickly relieves a blocked nose, opening up the airway.

2. Pause your workout – when you’ve been struck with a cold, give your body a rest and let it recover.

3. Sleepy head – sleep boosts your immune system. A study found that people who slept less than 7 hours a night were 3 times more susceptible to colds than those who slept 8 hours or more a night – so listen to your body and let it rest.

4. Try the cold treatment superstar – Vicks VapoRub**. It gives relief from nasal congestion and coughs.

*Vicks Sinex – Soother Nasal Spray contains Oxymetazoline. For the relief of Nasal congestion. Always read the leaflet. For Adults and children over 12 years.

**VapoRub – For the relief of Nasal congestion, sore throat and cough due to colds. Always read the leaflet. Do not use on children under 2 years or as an inhalation for children under 8 years.

Disclosure: this is a sponsored post and I have received compensation for posting it.

Brought to you by Vicks.

Paracetamol and olbas oil used round here.

Thing that seems to work best though is many years in front line healthcare being sneezed on, coughed and breathed on over (why do so few turn their heads or cover their mouths when talking or being examined?) which must have exposed me to most things plus children in school and nursery to top up the other viruses going around.

Oh and obviously the flu jab annually to avoid the really nasties.

Result = can count in one hand the number of days off sick in last 16 years
