Mattessons Double Dipper Review – Quick Snacks for Busy Families

December 5, 2013 by

We were recently asked to review a set of new quick snacks, the Mattessons Double Dipper range. If there is one thing we are, it’s a busy family and we rely quite a lot on quick snacks as the girls have to eat between school and gym and have tea at gym too. By the time you add in school packed lunches, that’s a lot of varied but hasty and not too spendy meals to find.

The double dippers are pieces of chicken with an accompanying sauce and crunch coating in three separate sections inside the pot. They need to be chilled (but would last a morning in a lunch box I think) and come in four flavours; Thai, Tikka, Italian and Classic. We all tried them out since they were new and interesting and liked them. The tikka was definitely my favourite as the flavouring in the chicken was good and the sauce tasty, with Thai and Italian a close second. Classic is plain chicken and was slightly too bland for me but the sauce was good and the crunchy coating adds a nice variation in texture.

The pots are all around 190 calories and priced at RRP £1.59 (from Tesco, who delivered them). As a snack that seems okay to me; it’s protein and so a better snack that a chocolate bar and savoury which is a psychologically better snack before exercise as well as an actual better food group. £1 seems reasonable for that sort of food too and they were both tasty and convenient.

Would I buy them? Yes, almost certainly. While I do try to provide meals direct from home when I can, we forget an awful lot and these are cheaper and tastier than a shop bought sandwich. Not bad at all 🙂

Disclosure: this is a paid review. Opinions are out own.

Look interesting for a quick snack idea.

Great! I will keep an eye out for these at my local supermarket. DD is v.boring in her choice of packed lunch & will either eat a ham or cheese sandwich, so these look like a different alternative.
