What's your favourite yarn shop?

November 18, 2013 by

A while ago I updated a post where I described the really bad service I had had from a yarn company. I was extremely angry to have been treated so poorly and took the unusual step (for me) of making a fuss about it on my blog. Today they asked me to remove it. Now normally I’d say if you are foolish enough to treat your customers badly, what they say stands but to be honest, I work on the internet and since they contacted me, I’ve given them the benefit of the doubt. For the record, I’ve not been bribed or compensated for removing it and I still ended up out of pocket for their poor service, I’m removing it out of the goodness of my heart 🙂

Archiving the post (it’s still there in case they ever cheese me off again! but hidden from view now) means another very lovely yarn company have lost their link. So I wanted to put it back in a fresh post. And then I thought.. who else do I like who sells yarn? Who SHOULD I know about? My own yarn selling doesn’t count as I just have a little selection of cheerful yarns for pom pom making and learner knitting and crochet so I’m happy to hear about proper shops that really do the thing as it should be done.

So Hampton Yarns get their link back and I’m adding one for Deramores who have FAB customer service and I love Meadow Yarn and the Sock Yarn Shop too. My deep love for Spin A Yarn in Bovey Tracey comes from actually liking visiting it in real life.

So tell me, where do you get yours? And why do you use them?

*** Please note: I have my limits so while I’m drawing a line under my old irritations, if anyone happens to leave a link to them, I’m going to remove it 🙂 I can only take so much letting it go 😆 ***

I get 90% of my yarn from Black Sheep Wools. They are friendly, helpful, visit most of the big craft shows (which is how I found them) and they’re about a half hour drive from me. I went in the store and they didn’t have enough of what I wanted in stock; so they gave me a drink and I waited for half an hour and they brought some over from the warehouse for me. They’ve answered questions on the phone as well! Really excellent service and I love them.

Black Sheep every time! Plus the beautiful Elvincraft on ebay @ http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Elvincraft-Homegrown-Yarns?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 for hand dyed colours.

I’ve used the ebay Woolly Jumper Craft Company several times. Although the postage at first looks steep, any money they don’t use for posting is immediately refunded. They’re speedy to send out too.
