Garden Gym Jamming

July 26, 2012 by

Yesterday I indulged the gym fanatics of the house in a subscription to GymJamz, a site that lets you download music for gym routines. They’ve been dying to have a go at making up their own routines and I thought it would get them bouncing about and keep them busy.

Here was the results of their efforts. Fran made up her own last real one but was disappointed in it afterwards. She’s much happier with this music, but I’m not sure she will be allowed to change. I think the dance in it is lovely though, suits her really well.

Amelie found another bit of gypsy like music and I adore it. Was good to see her working hard at something.

Fran made this one up for Josie.

Kept them busy all yesterday and today as well. I wish there were more opportunity for kids who want to to be involved with making these up as they get a huge buzz from it. Sometimes I think I will never get the hang of the politics of gymnastics 🙁 I think it would be better to be disinterested and unsupportive. I have to admit I’m beginning to wish they’d all quit and do something else. And then I see the joy they get out of me bothering to help them do this for themselves and how pleased they were with the fun they had and the results and I grit my teeth and decide to just try to be a better gym mum.

Lovely! I guess your girls, like my Eden are going to be glued to the olympic gymnasts on tv ?
Oh and I stay way out of any gym politics, Woody takes Eden, and he’s good at ignoring that stuff. 🙂

      Very wise 😉

I would so love to be involved though. My girls get a lot out of it. I’d like to give back. Its frustrating to never be seen as someone who has anything to offer :/

That’s really good. Looks like they really enjoyed themselves.

As a non-gym mum myself perhaps you can explain something I’ve never understood. Are all the twiddly hand and arm moves and all the hyperextend-your-back-and-stick-out-your-chest bits all about using up time while you catch your breath between the proper gymnastic moves or is it something I don’t appreciate in the same way I dont ‘get’ contemporary dance? 🙂

There are marks for artistry I think. And then a fair bit of breather time too.

Looks like great fun. Have to confess that I found the brief spells that P did gymnastics, and trampolining, some of the most difficult group situations to bear. There was something about the atmosphere I really didn’t like. Can still remember the mother growling at her five year old son who quietly explained that he needed to leave the trampoline for a wee, ‘grrr, I’m not impressed. Not impressed at all!’ She was genuinely scary.
