Finished it Friday: Knitted Scarf

November 6, 2011 by

I’ve gone from not quite knowing what to faff about at with knitting (and being deeply engrossed in a book series) to suddenly having lots of things that need knitting and not much time to do it in! Having concluded that my inability to make up cardigans rather inhibits clothes making, I went back to blankets and added a scarf in for good measure.

I was really pleased with the result – I think it looks a bit Monsoon really, definitely not out of place in a shop (I will never be able to replicate that knot, but doesn’t it look lovely!?)

The yarn was Knitcol Picasso and I highly recommend the shop I linked to, who were quick and good value. The scarf, which is taller than Fran, took a shade less than 4 balls. I changed half way to Knitpro needles, acrylic 4mm ones, which I didn’t expect to like but really did and again, that is an excellent shop, good value, quick and a very personal service. I used broken rib for the stitch, which made it very snuggly; it does curl, so after it was done I stitched it into an open ended tube and Fran made pompoms with remnants, which we pinched the ends together with.

I’m so pleased with it – handing it over was a wrench and if she loses it…. 😉

We love it! Where’s the pattern, please? Is there one or did you make it up – details, please? LOVE the yarn, so thanks for sharing the link. Will definitely be there when we have used up some of the stash we already have!!

I made it up but I was going to put what I did as an idea on to Ravelry – are you on there? I’m MerrilyMe.

They are excellently lovely. My larger acrylic ones do have a slight knobble – I might have to sand it.

Gorgeous. So, dim question from a non- knitter. Presumably the wool is multicoloured in which case does the length of each colour determine what you make with it? So this scarf is a predetermined width if you wish to keep the stripes true? This is something I could be persuaded to learn to knit for. Clothes no but this maybe.

The stripes are far more random that is obvious, mostly the wool lasted a row and half to two and a half rows, but that seems to be what makes it nice. You certainly don’t feel like it is ‘wrong’ to have them not perfect. I think the stitch also helps that.

Looks lovely. Far nicer than my creation that it almost completed. I hope she appreciates it. I’m going to stalk you on Ravelry since I just started an account last week.
