Finished it Friday

July 22, 2011 by

To be honest, if you look very closely, it isn’t really quite finished. I’ve got some bits to do better and alter and improve but for my first ever knitted cardigan, I’m proud of it. She loves it.

The pattern is a Sirdar one, but I made it stripy and I wanted to use Rowan Hand Knit Cotton which has a tendency to knit small, I’d found, so I went up half a needle size. The patterns was mainly in cms though, but it does seem quite big. Still, she’ll be growing into it for a while 😆 I will do better photos. I’m a hopeless person when it comes to attention to detail so I am really hoping one or other nice knitting friend will go over it with me and teach me how to do some bits better. There are lots of places I know this is distinctly ropey 😆

Still, given I foolishly decided to do something with a zip and had to fake the collar when I realised I couldn’t make the stripes work on the hood it should have had, I’m rather proud.

It’s very pretty. Making it a little big is a good idea as I’m sure that you don’t want her to outgrow it before you knit sweaters for any of her sisters who also want them. Good work Merry (and how did you manage to match the purple stripes exactly with her leggings?)
