Anglesey Abbey is neither in Anglesey, nor an Abbey, so far as I could tell from the wander we had around it on our way home from Bury St Edmunds. It was, however, completely gorgeous and we’ll definitely be going back to do more there. It was one of those National Trust properties where they have gone to town to fill it with interesting things and stuff to do and reasons to go back. It looked fabulous.
The woodland walk was gorgeous and had a long pine avenue with things tucked into recesses. We particularly liked this:-
On closer inspection it had statues of women doing womanly things…
Painting and thinking…
And preparing to bowl a strike with a severed head. 😯
We all loved the Silver Birches.
At the mill, there was a Greater Wagtail nesting in the wheel, which an attendant pointed out to us. Never seen one of those before.
The carp in the quarry pool were amazing.
And the herbaceous border was pretty inspirational to a would be gardener.
It looks like we’ll be coming back to explore the house and the rest of the grounds very soon.

Love this place though yet to do the house as children too small. Went in feb to see the snowdrops – featured on gardeners world the next week as best snowdrop place in the area. Must go back soon It looks beautiful with the flowers out.
