If you could see the smile on my face now, you wouldn’t believe that a few days ago I was face down on the sofa, sobbing that surely it was time for the universe to give me a break and just stop sending more and more impossible things for us to deal with. Not that the washing machine blowing up really registered on the scale of ‘things no family should ever have to cope with’ in the grand scheme of things but it was just.another.thing in a day that already seemed very unfair and in a year that has seemed very, very unfair indeed.
But if you remember the video yesterday:-
The girls made this video for us today. It’s a rather desperate attempt to win a new washing machine, after our trusty one developed a clank, followed by a squeeeeee! followed by a boom… poof… whiff and disappeared in a cloud of smelly, rubbery, black smoke….
You’ll know that we decided to give winning a new one a shot from the lovely team at Appliances Online who really do some of the cleverest, big hearted and best bits of customer PR & service I’ve seen around. We submitted the video to their Facebook page Appliances Online and crossed our fingers!
Today, the lovely Yossi phoned me. He said we hadn’t won but that we’d come second and he just wanted to ring up and tell us, for the girls, that the judges had loved our plea but that one was better than us. So I did my best to sound not terribly sad, but I kind of was, because I knew the girls had really wanted to do this thing for our family.
And then he said “Well actually, we’ve decided we are going to send you a 2nd place Hotpoint Washing Machine anyway!!!!!!!!!!
Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so surprised I don’t think I really knew what to say. He properly caught me out!

And frankly, thank goodness. Max, Fran and Maddy are out playing rugby this evening and I don’t want to be in the same house as those unwashed socks for long at all!
