The numerous bank holidays recently have left us rather short of our Art Mondays, which we’ve missed. The two that were available were days when I was on a down, which Zoe does a great job of pulling me through, but the result has been we haven’t achieved so much, though we’ve had a nice time together. Our plan was to do some map inspired art and use it as a way to move from our house theme on to a ‘around the world’ theme. We were more inspired in planning than we were when it came to it, I think, but Zoe sorted out two fun activities which pleased them. The first was a ‘treasure map’ idea, a well known enough craft, with tea stained ageing and burned edges. We got them to plan it out though and think about the world they created. I’ll have to do some close ups of my lots as they put a lot of detail and effort in to them and some of the names were very funny. We have ‘done maps’ before, either as geography or as a family orienteering day or even as sculptures in Magic Maize. My favourite ever was Maddy’s landscape animation that came from her map project though. Zoe added some geography to the second activity by getting the kids to find out a bit about a country or continent and then use the information on a population map to do a ‘from space’ light map. They look really effective. I’ve got plans to do a couple more things. I’d like to explore OS maps a bit and thought some art using those symbols might be interesting. There was also a fun village map idea we saw, so perhaps we’ll do those before we move on.
Will add photos to this post again soon. Server crash caused some code loss. Sorry!
(This post was recreated from a back up following a server crash. As such, it is missing comments and hits and would love to get some back!)
