Continuing our arty-wordy theme, we took pastels back to Le Ciel Rouge today. Let the girls play and trampoline and socialise for a while, then chained them to the table to do something meaningful. Zoe got out some books and suggested they use them for inspiration and we all ‘art-ed’ together. I do think making myself draw alongside them is having some effect.
Amelie was only in the mood for penguins.
Josie had been considering trees and landscapes.
Maddy tried really hard to draw a man punting along in a boat and managed to not get cross when it wasn’t exactly as she wanted. She is trying so hard to persist and learn through trial and error at the moment.
I’m really hoping she’ll come back to this.
Fran has changed a LOT in a week.
And I drew a tree *and* something else. 😆
This was pastels and oil pastels combined. I’m going to nick Zoe’s pic of it as I spoiled the sky after she took one, but in general I really liked combining the two types of pastel.
The Zoe and I had a go at something from Sketch Tuesday to see if we could make something pleasing enough that the kids wouldn’t go mad trying to do it. It was great, so next week, we’ll get them to have a go.
We made a type of squiggle picture using the oil pastel pens.
Then we cut them up into squares using the width of a 30cm ruler and made a random collage.
Zoe put her colour on slightly differently so the effect was quite unlike mine.
LOTS of fun, very easy but very satisfying 🙂

Loving Maddy’s boat (and the other one with the person in it) and how Fran has changed in a week. I’m sure I could find nice things to say about everyone’s work.
But the abstracts! They moved me so and so.
The oil pastel and the cutting out. A real mixed-media piece.
Loving Zoe’s effects immediately above.
It’s a real experiment with positive and negative space, and all the wonderful light and bright colours.
