'Seamingly' going okay…

June 4, 2010 by

It has been a LONG time since i have done dress making, a very long time. Funny how many things on patterns i imagine to be some form of inbuilt knowledge and only teaching Fran is reminding me i had to learn them.

We aren’t doing too badly. This is for her Beatles outfit for the show she is in next month – they’ve all got to have 60’s style dresses over white dancing tights (which i haven’t bought yet!) and this looked potentially rather lovely. But with her 29 inch chest (i’m not convinced it is really that small!) and 27 inch hips and 22 inch waist, she managed to be a Medium, a small and an extra small all in one go, so heaven knows whether choosing medium will actually end up fitting!

giggle to measurements making her 3 different sizes, at least with that style of dress you know that if the chest fits, the rest should follow!

That is of course very true 🙂 It turned out very well actually, i might even use the adult pattern to make myself a couple. I really struggled with the shoulders though – it had some fandangled thing to stitch the tops together from inside. It doesn’t look very neat though because i wasn’t patient enough. I think admitting defeat and just having a small seam on the inside would be better.
