Freddy Threaded Three Fat Fish

November 17, 2009 by

The title being a tongue twister the girls and i invented the other week, to try and help the younger ones sort out their F and Th sounds. Maddy is trying so hard she calls Fran “Thran” half the time!!

Trying to blog every day in whistle stop fashion. So today started with Fran and i lying in bed discussing her Bloody Tower/To Kill a Queen My Story books she has been reading and me telling her about A Traveller in Time and comparing how the different books (i am currently reading The Other Queen) told the story of Mary Queen of Scots and whether they focused on Court, Scots Queen, plot or ordinary people. Was an interesting discussion. She is going to try AT in T and maybe even my one after she finishes hers.

Then we got up and burned through some maths, reading, history for all, music for some and English. Fran and i argued heatedly over sentence construction. The others avoided us.

Made it to their private gym lesson on time and enjoyed the company of Mini Violet. Girls all did very well; Fran doing upstarts and back flics on the beam 😯 and Amelie was having a ball. Both coaches feel she has a lot of potential and are keen to help her get on. Maddy was actually the star again and loved doing handsprings over the table vault – she has glowed after both weeks with the pleasure of doing well and being taught alongside the other two.

Came home with Mini Violet in tow for a babysit and they played, read, crafted, hama beaded, did more maths, used some of their various sensible websites, played in the garden and eventually watched a film. Josie and Mini-Violet did very well after a few hiccups and had fun together, much as they had while doing Gymmies together.

Quick house tidy, made dinner, dashed Fran back out to gym training, did some work, watched Fran, came home, watched Alan Davies being daft with string and now going to go to bed!!!!

I wonder if Fran would like Raven Queen (http://usborneonline.org/catalogue/browse.asp?org=KUT20911&css=1&cat=1&subject=FF&subcat=FF9-13&id=2197)?

What was Alan Davies being daft with string on? Ashamed to say I could watch anything that has him in it *blush*

Thanks for that recommendation; have put it in the Xmas basket. SHe has also liked some of the Historical House books – i think they are Usborne too?

Mini Violet sounds like a lovely young girl.

Timeslips are an interesting genre. Margery Fisher has some recommendations for the time. So does the International Guide to Childrens’ Literature by Sheila Ray and Peter Hook (the author/editor).

Fantastic stuff from Maddy on the vault! Handsprings must really get out the energy!

And maths is a hell of a subject to say if you haven’t got your THs. I have observed that they are not in there until all the teeth, especially the front ones, come in. So is “thirty” and “thirty-three” and “three hundred”.

It is also not a sound to pick up on the lips. “Freddy threaded” sounds just the same. I do know that there is a soft TH and a HARD TH in English.

ah but certain Christmas carols just don’t sound right without that “f” instead of “th” thing…. everyone one knows that the Lickle Donk ee went to Beffflehem surely!

it was”l” and “y” that stumped Aprilia…. she got so confused that yellow ended up being leyow at one point… poor kid!
