Animation Station.

June 19, 2009 by

Maddy and i have been having a go at animation.

First of all we had a quick go just to see what the easy mistakes to make were and how to use the software.

And then, because Maddy doesn’t like to do anything by halves, we went straight on to Morph!

Part of the remit for a suitable education is that it should fit you for a life that is appropriate to your apptitude and ability. It’s fortunate that Maddy quite likes the idea of being an animator then really 😉

    that’s brilliant.

I think Small would like animation, but I’m not quite sure he’s got the patience level yet.

Love the Morph one, especially his little foot!

Maddy’s patience was mainly tested through the assembling of bits and mummy working out what to do bit. The model making and those 30 pictures (although the eye can apparently see up to 30 a second, not the 4 a second we did!) was easy and quite relaxed – you have to be a lot less precise than you’d think for a half decent result.

Worth a go anyway – we are definitely going to do more.

    Looks good 🙂

What software were you using? We’ve used windows movie maker but never managed to get enough frames per second to get a smooth stream of movements happening.

We’re off to an animation workshop next Monday so expecting a renewed interest in it here again next week.

It’s got a months free trial on it, but after that i think Matt said it was £44. I think Moo and i would really enjoy a workshop now, must look for one. This was 4 frames per second, but it seemed to be able to go an awful lot quicker than that. I’m hopeless at that kind of software but i did manage it okay, who knows what i’d achieve if i read the instructions!

Tell Maddy I think she’s brilliant. You’re not bad either. i don’t think I could have worked all that out by myself!

We think they look really good.

I remember as a child my dad having a cine camera and making small animated sequences and also using Letraset for making the titles – real, longwinded process. We used to have to move Fisher Price people about really slowly and he’d then edit it together. The software sounds so much better.

I think your Morph is as good as the old Morph that I remember from watching that. Just a shame we can’t animate our politicians 🙂 or fold them over when they become too corrupt.

They are fab videos for Maddy’s first attempts! You’ll have to come down here for animated exeter week next year, there are always loads of workshops on. The week before Feb half term!
