Not so bad.

March 7, 2008 by

We had our first ever LEA visit today, not bad given that we’ve been ‘known’ since Fran was 5 and she’s nearly 10. I’ve had my reasons in the past for not having visits and i had my reasons this time for having one and i’m relieved to find it was a good and right decision to have one this time. Well, in as much as i’ll assume it was and hope what i get back in writing is as positive as he seemed to be at the time.

The only suggestion he made was that when we receive the admission forms for Fran for senior school, we go through motions of selecting schools since all senior schools here are over-subscribed and if we leave it and then she suddenly wants a place, there will be no choice at all. However, he also said that he wasn’t suggesting that we ought to be considering it, just that he thought it might be wise to keep our options open for her.

Other than that, he was fine with everything and i didn’t get any feeling that he felt we needed to “improve” anything. In fact, i’d go as far as to say he came across as a very enlightened HE inspector 🙂

I will write a bit more but i’ll pop it into a passworded area i think; the password will be the name of Amelie’s best friend’s eldest sister, in her blog name form (6 letters, no capital.) However, anyone who is known to me or a regular reader but doesn’t know it, give me a shout in the comments 🙂

Hooray! Glad it went well. Nice to hear that they have an inspector who doesn’t turn up on the offensive. The suggestion about school apps does kind of make sense, we were going to do the same with Jess for primary school even though there was a good chance I’d be HEing her. We have good schools, bad schools and some truly awful ones in our area and if we’d missed the boat on admissions and then she or we had decided she wanted to try school then we’d have been well and truly scuppered.

Funnier still, Gloucestershire LEA recently sent us all the forms. To our address in Texas. I’m almost tempted to apply and see if we get a place or not, and then ask for a bus pass.

I haven’t a clue on the password though so I’d really appreciate it if you could let me in on it.

Glad it went well. We have to decide whether to have one or not so this is quite reassuring.

With the school thing we did the same with Abi and just cancelled the place when we knew it wasnt an issue. Knowing how jam-packed schools get(especially the good ones) we didnt want to risk missing out. Thankfully we never used the place.

I dont know the password either so I wondered if I could have it please.

Hi. Weve just missed out on the chance of a school place for Sophie at our local school. Have decided its not actually much of a loss anyway but do worry what if she suddenly changes her mind and now has no choice in the matter so I think the application would be sensible! In our case forms for secondary are given out via school, no school obviously meant no form and now weve been told weve got no chance of anything other than whatevers left… needless to say thats why its no loss!
Id be interested in reading more about your visit though if you’d allow me!

Hi Merry – haven’t been by in a while, but I thought I’d in on this one as Jake is due to start secondary in Sept as well. We have got him a place at the local – excellent – secondary school, but are likely NOT to take it (check out our updated family webpage to see why – link from my blog), however we felt it prudent to at least have a place ready if we needed it! I’d like to know what your LEA guy said. Can I read the password posted bit – please 🙂 – only I’ll need the password! I ought to blog a bit about our decision I guess…
