Enjoy yourself, dammit.

April 18, 2007 by

2 more perfectly pleasant days (there really is no other way of saying it… honestly, i bore myself 🙂 )

Yesterday Mummy Flower and i managed to turn out 45 parcels in 2 hours while juggling 5 children, a stream of odd phonecalls and providing educational and insightful commentary and provision. I thought we did rather well. Baby Flower is at an all time clingy high and so we did rather a lot of juggling of her but also coached Amelie through some JP writing, helped Fran with some quilting and moved Maddy on a bit in the guitar lesson she is on. She’s getting a good bit better. She sat next to me and read P&J5a really well and i chuckled privately when she suddenly said “Mummy, a few days ago i had to ask you about new words but i just read ‘brother and sister’ on my own!” Shades of Ernest 🙂 If she could just summon the confidence to take the leap now, she’d be away. She still thinks she can’t read though 😆

Shortly before the parcelling was finished they all discovered the garden full of boxes and went off to play. Aside from random assortments of EC, quilting, reading (Fran finished The Worst Witch), maths, handwriting and other stuff, they then played for a good while. Eventually i called them in for a book and we read a nice little reader on Muslim Holidays together; it pulled together a fair bit of the stuff we’ve talked over recently too, which was good, plus it had photos, not drawings, in it, which turned out to be a helpful learning tool for Amelie. *prepare to be shocked*

Amelie: “Look, there are people dressed as Muslims and doing Muslim stuff in those pictures.”

Me: “Yes, well, they are Muslims. They are doing all the things we are reading about.”

Amelie: “Oh, you mean Muslims are REAL PEOPLE??? Not animals and stuff?”

WTF?????? 😯 🙄 😯 (Don’t shoot the messenger.)

Shortly afterwards, following a brief but thorough resume and a decision to allow no further stories like Wind in the Willows so as to avoid any people v critters confusion, we resumed the book. 😕 🙄

Today i had far less parcelling to do as i’m trying to leave it to the minion whenever i can and it was done by 9am. Amelie is trying the patience of saints (and so driving me to the edge of the planet) atm, mainly due to some anger about eating restrictions i think, she’s become very picky with food (which is frankly a tad foolish given how little she can actually eat) and is being very DIFFICULT 😕 But i’m perservering and including her in (her words) school at home as much as is possible. She had a nightmare last night and was very distressed and has been clingy all day.

Did some normals, then Kate came round and gave them all a drawing lesson from SWN, while i jiggled Madison and tried to remember how to interact with a baby that isn’t just staring at you with one eye and a mouthful of boob 😆 And then, when she’d gone, we all went to Activity World for a runabout.

I’ve got a Unit Study on Islam all planned in my head which i’ll put on a page at some point; planning to tie it all up over the next week before we move on to the Crusades with SOTW. We’ve been using great books, which i love, so i’ll put it all together soon.

Oh – i’m also feelnig quite proud of my Amazon Storefront which i’ve bene working very hard on. I’ve got some things on there which i’m not putting into BM just get, so it is making for an interesting market research tool too.

Oh! Amelie asked me last week if Muslims were real too! And some other group of people – the Victorians I think or possibly the Tudors. She also asked if the people in the tv (HSM actors) were real people.
