2,4,6,8… who do we appreciate?

November 6, 2006 by

Children with ages that fall into a nice, polite pattern of course 🙂 Shame it only last 3 months these days; i can’t quite believe how soon Maddy is going to be 7 😯

No idea where i left off, so i’ll pick up from Friday after a quick midweek round up; Beads were here all day Wednesday. I did mean to give Helen my camera for the day, but forgot – nevermind 🙁 Kids all played very deliciously together and towards the end of the day i went off to pick up E, Fran’s very dear friend who lives in Pboro. Brought her back for a sleepover and therefore felt highly honoured to be entrusted with another child on her first stop over with friends in 2 days. I must be considered trustworthy 🙂 They then spent an extremely silly and girly 24 hours together, staying up far to late, gorging on the ends of the treating sweeties, playing Harvest Moon and FIMO-ing. Gave them all a fairy workshop and they were very pleased with their results. E had quite a knack for dinky trinkets and both my big girls have come on lots. I took the opportunity to wander around and chuck things away, knowing that Lucy would be in friday to clean. She did 2 evenings last week and packed parcels for me, so i got a bit of a break from that, did some creative stuff, tidied and planned a few bits of home ed. 😯 i did manage to get into a fight on a forum though (total storm in a teacup, which resulted in me crying a lot and the thread getting locked!

Friday morning consisted of room tidying and normals and a fair bitm ore modelling, so far as i can remember and then i took them out to the re-forming of the local MudPud group (now not run by me! result!) Lovely time had with photos on Flickr mainly for the Beans but really noticed that Fran has now outgrown it so i must make an effort to go to EO too. Found the afternoon a little draining as most of the other mums appeared to be either pregnant or have small babies. However, although i found myself having to make an effort to be sociable for a while, overall i did lots better and i think i might have turned a bit of a corner this last week, as the general feelings of despair and disaster seem to have retreated into a more manageable wistful regret and rueful sadness.

After that i had to take the kids shoe shopping, which involved spending £70 on boots for Fran and Amelie (quite grown up boots for Fran 😯 ) and then home again to a house made pristine in my absence, ready for our weekend guests.

BIL and SIL arrived late, with their two girls and a weekend of fun, frivolity and high-jinx ensued. Various combinations went out on bikes (Maddy made it round without me, very proud of her!) and Max and Joe visited their Gran in hospital (much improved). We had a visitation from the 2nd cousins so we had the 8 children from Max’s side of the family all in one place.

Including Mini-Violet and Baby-Flower, that would be 8 girls out of 8 then 🙂

In the evening, Joe and Lou took the big girls to the local fireworks display and we all had a long, dark, spooky walk!

Yesterday consisted of lots of present opening (wooden cooker a big hit) and then my parents arrived in the afternoon with a Dora kit, including talking Dora and Backpack 🙄 She adores it; natch 🙂 and then we ended the day with birthday tea, cake and, of course, fireworks. Really lovely day; not only did she enjoy it but so did i, 100%. I’m hoping that means i’ve officially laid some ghosts 🙂

    Good 🙂

So, when you say “quite grown-up boots for Fran”, do you really just mean hooker boots? 😉

    I do… no, no, i don’t!!!

They are quite nice, mid calf, brown, with a sort of lace up thing and fleecy top – ummed and aaaahed a bit but actually look fine so long as she isn’t wearing a short skirt!

Abbie got some nice non-hooker boots in Clarks the other day … still looking for Anna – and I’m *not* letting Steve’s mum take her this time!

And a ‘good’ to the last line from me too 🙂

Yes, these were Clarks – she started out with the brown ones with heart hassles but they were just a touch high on her calf for me (Amelie has the ankle length version in pink and Maddy is getting them in brown) – the gore-tex ones were okay though and we’ve had some lovely Vertbaudet shoes in the post today too.

heart tassles are the ones Abbie has – they don’t seem that high but perhaps her calves are taller than Fran’s! I’ve Doc Marten’s Wonder Balsamed them and they’re dark enough brown to do for school now.

Trouble is that of course Anna couldn’t possibly have the same. Didn’t see any goretex ones when I was looking … but we’ve a mum & big girl shopping trip planned for Saturday morning so I’m sure we’ll sort something out then.

I don’t think it helped at the time that she was wearing a very short skirt! (argh….)They were fine, she nearly got them, then she saw the other ones and in the end comfort decided itm ore than anything.

Sounds like life is treating you better.
KWYM about shoes, 2 pairs for Seb were £55-ouch!

Good to hear how much you enjoyed the birthday.

Our P has to wear hiking boots in the winter for two reasons:
    1. Her floppy, skinny feet need the support.
    2. Girlie shoes make me want to rant like a seventies feminist – silly heels, silly colour, might as well bind their feet… etc. (No offence to girlie shoe devotees but I just don’t get it!)
