Poetic justice at 3am.

October 30, 2006 by

What mother wouldn’t chuckle at hearing their own version of my beloved Amelie saying “Joey, PLEASE be quiet, you are keeping me AWAKE!” at 3am? 😆

We’ve had a very enjoyable few days; max spent quite a bit of the weekend creating a rabbit palace for the corner of the garden, so Smartie and Button now live in considerably more comfort. The girls had a great time helping (she says, euphemistically) and we’re all sorry we missed the rabbit escaping from it before the lids were on. They must have climbed on their box and taken a flying leap over the side, and it is probably as high as Amelie – i’d love to have seen them do it!

We also did lots of models, some card making, a good bit of sorting and tidying and a huge amount of playing in the garden. All in all, it felt good.

Today the girls have got on with normals (Fran is adapting very well to the “please do 4 things out of this list” thing) and Maddy did a good bit of ETC2 but wasn’t quite in the mood somehow. Fran is really getting on with French well, i’m pleased with her. Must look for some more resources for that for the new year. Then we Hama-ed, needle-felted and scooped pumpkins (which i enjoyed doing hugely, i’ve always left it to Max until now) so all in all it was a nice day. Varying discussions on the origins of Halloween, a surprising conversation with Amelie where she defined steam and smoke for me (big two still use the words interchangeably, so i was impressed!) and odds and sods of other things. This year hasn’t been as fulfilling as i’d have liked it to be, educationally, but there is no getting away from the fact that we’ve really broken the back of some skills and i’ve got 3 children who think and do in a very much more medium-sized-child way these days. next year really should be much better.

Had hoped to get lots of nice new products online tonight (big load of Pony bead kits arrived today, very pretty) but i was awake half the night and i’m all out of energy. Mad dream that involved a huge, violent, green ogre that Max and i kept trying to contain in bags or pump full of sedatives but everytime we thought we had it controlled it broke out again. Most bizarre, particularly as that kind of dream ought to involve frantic saving of children, but it seemed to be intent on getting us, not them. Analyze that 🙄

Oh – and i’ve just successfully broken a major business first for me; my £6000th this month just got paid by a customer, which is fantastic for 2 reasons. One, £6000 in a month is a phenomenal amount for a small business that lives in a 4th bedroom and two, i predicted that this month would hit £6k and it feels good to know i’ve got my finger on the pulse of what is going on. AND, while i’ve been blogging, two more people have ordered, meaning i’ve just had my best ever day of business for the 2nd time in a week!

(EDIT: As a reward to myself for such a good month; i’ve just bought an Ady machine – oh i know how to party!!!!)

That’s really excellent. The interent has really opened up some great possibilities, hasn’t it – imagine trying to launch your kind of business with a paper catalogue. You should enter one of those business woman of the year awards – excellent publicity 🙂

Blimey. Does this mean you are getting near to having to be VAT registered? Isn’t that a turnover of about £60k per 12 months?

What I find hard to believe is that there is that much demand for the stuff.

Yep *rolls eyes* More paperwork for me to be late with.

Dunno what you mean Chris, it’s an EXCELLENT set of products i stock! 😛

It’s great for profits obviously but I just don’t get the appeal of the products at all. Who’d actually want to keep any of the fimo stuff once it’s made. It’s like drawings and painting by kids…..I can’t get them in the bin fast enough. You keep for a period so as not to appear rude and then bin. The idea of a house full of fimo creations and bead creations just makes me shudder.

Great news Merry. Long may it continue :o)

It’s just like that I agree – but it’s the *process* that’s the important thing – hence the appeal and that’s why people come back for more … isn’t it?

  18. Chris says

Nah, I reckon it’s people wanting to litter their houses with sentimental tat. The more the merrier, so to speak.

Well, Mr P, it will surprise you to know that i went through all the kids creations last night, and many of my own, and photgraphed them and then hurled them. So there!

PS – what do you mean, sentimental? Moi 😛

Congrats! We have a house full of creations. Leo is certain he is going to be a successful artist and his pictures will be worth money – who am I to argue?
