That’s probably not as bad as the adults would do in the US! My mom couldn’t believe we weren’t taught geography in school, so made a point that her kids would actually know where Timbuktu was, and not just know an expression.

That’s disgusting and pmsl at the teachers response that it’s not reflective of their teaching/kids abilities WTF?
Just checked the boys and they could correctly identify all of the continents and I know they know where the UK, the US and Iraq are from messing around with their map mats at home – phew!

hmmm, the fact taht the survey was done by a mag which hopes to “bridge the gaps in children’s geographic knowlege” makes me somewhat sceptical – if the survey had shown that they all knew where the contries were then worried parents wouldn’t buy the mag now would they…. however, I escaped from school totally unable to find countries on a map but more than able to tell you the climate for those un-name-able places as that was what geography seemed to consist of!
My two youngest could answer them a year ago but they are map obsessed with a geography obsessed mother.LOl. I sniggered at the not a reflection on teaching skills too.

There is a quiz on the Newsround website. I’m going to get my friend to try it on her schooled 7 year old
