Now, i know i’m known at times for being a bit of a drama queen, so i think this deserves to be said. 18 months or so ago, you might rememeber that Maddy had a run in with a dentist who i specifically called out beofre the appointment and explained that she had difficulties coping with the unexpected, that dentists, new people and being touched frightened her at times and that he must follow my lead during the treatment. She was only 4 at the time, a pretty different child to the one she is now and she was petrified by him. She stood with her back to the wall while the others were checked, tears running down her face and shaking her head from side to side silently.
And i may have rewritten it for dramatic effect, but here is the original post.
Eventually i persuaded her on to my lap and said very clearly words to the effect of “he will NOT touch you, he is just going to look.” She opened her mouth, he grabbed each cheek and stuck his hands between her teeth, pushing them apart and utterly panicked her.
Well, it was this dentist she saw.

Yes, mind you, i ranted about my last nhs dentist yesterday to Hannah, only to find she’d just registered with him!
Claire says
All dentists are evil, this just confirms my hatred of them is wholly justified.

You know, my nice new private one is so lovely that i’m positively looking forward to going back for my next two fillings! He did the huge nightmare one the other day and he was so good i ddin’t even mutter once, nevermind cry!
Amanda says
Oh no thats awful. My dentist is private but kids is NHS at the same surgery and so far we have been really as she used to be a SEN dentist.
Alison says
Yeah, it’s why we bit the bullet and decided to find someone private last year. They treat kids of private patients as NHS patients, so it works out ok.
Allie says
Getting a decent dentist is a total nightmare these days. I remember your account of M’s horrid experience with this dentist – what a bstrd!
Nic says
We’ve just gone over to NHS after being private for years but no longer able to afford it. So far (two six monthly checkups) it’s been fine but the lovely woman dentist we’d seen has left and we won’t know what the replacement is like til we meet them in January. I’ve never been scared of the dentist although A is terrified – starting to get worried now!
Oh and hope ‘Dr Kiss’ never looks in anyone’s mouth again!
merry says
Does ratyher give a whole new meaning to “give us a Kiss!”

Ruth says
Oh poor Maddy.
