Sunflowers revisited

September 15, 2006 by

carried on with normalling this morning; Fran was remarkably motivated by me telling her that Gwenny had started the same MPH books as her so she burned through a load of MPH3A/2 in an effort to keep ahead. Oh well, friendly rivalry and all that. She got the hang of vertical multiplication pretty easily anyway and seemed to like that. Great to see how well she has got the hang of the 6’s, 7’s, 8’s and 9’s anyway. Then she went off and did some EC English while i did some vertical addition and ETC with Maddy.

She and i aren’t hitting it off so well at the moment which is frustating me (and her no doubt) – she seems to be very withdrawn and moody, with lots of twiddling and instant distress over tiny things. I don’t know quite what to do because for the first time i don’t find i have limitless patience with her foibles really 🙁 I think because Amelie is requiring slightly firmer treatment to stop her being a right royal pain (you know, she walks round the house humming the Resetti tune… she MEANS to make people mad!) and this means Maddy is getting the round end of me being as bit tougher.

Ah well – i’m pushing to get her read (uphill struggle right now, glad i’ve been here before) so hopefully that will help eventually.

Amelie and i did endless bits and bobs, everyone hama-ed and Fran finished making Lady. Not sure what else happened; i think i sent them all to lie down with DS’s for a while when they got overly grumpy! 😆

Amelie painted a sunflower on her plate last week (MUST do photos, sorry!) and was very taken with them, particularly when she realised they are my favourite flower and that i had them in my wedding bouquet. So we’ve been talking about flowers and weddings and so on. Struck me this afternoon that i could capitalise on it, so i gave them all a bit of binca and some thread, got them started on some sewing and then read Katie and the Sunflowers and Camile and the Sunflowers (i think) to them. As Lucy was here, i had several calls and a pallet of beads arrived mid story, it was all a bit protracted, but we got there and discussed loads of things like painting styles, still lifes, what “Breton” refers to and so on. Was all very nice.

And that is about that. I’ve put away and counted and updated thousands of beads and boxes and i’m pooped. But i got a good price for my turnips tonight 😉
