We all curled up on the sofa last night and watched the new(er) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film. This morning they’ve watched it again while i worked and i was musing on whether the bits about Willy Wonka’s past are derived in anyway from the Great Glass Elevator book. I said that i hadn’t ever read it, thogh it had been on my shelf as a child and when Fran asked why i hadn’t, i said i thought perhaps that i had always worried i wouldn’t like it as much as the first book, so hadn’t read it.
She gave me a bemused look and said “Mum, you must have been a very strange child!”
I think she may be right. Trouble is, i haven’t quite grown out of it!

You were right though, it isn’t half as good. I was glad to be shot of it when I was reading it to my Roald Dahl fan, easily my least favourite of his children’s books.

My daughters favourite so far with Roald Dahl is Matilda. After we read the book together we watched the film. Both my kids were really scared especially my son.
