I bought Max an MP3 player for Xmas, one with an FM radio, which was what he really wanted, so it’s not an iPod. I only, in my limited understanding of anytihng of this sort, understand iTunes and iPods, so i didn’t really realise that iTunes will not download music into anything that isn’t an iPod.
Now i can get round this in a haphaard sort of a way by making a cd of his music and then loading that on to his MP3 player via Windows Media Player but it means it doesn’t have titles etc which sort of means the point is lost, i guess.
So could anyone who knows (Chris, Chris, Simon… Tim… erm.. Sarah?) tell me the most sensible place to sign Max up to so he can download music of his choosing (and on his card!) that isn’t ‘encoded for havoc’ by the meglomania that is Apple?
I’d be most grateful 🙂

Napster?

Quicktime?
I think this will achieve what you want.
Tim says
DOn’t know quite how but I think you can use Quicktime to access iTunes and then get stuff from Quicktime to your mp3….. I think.

I am looking into Tesco! My 9 yr old got a similar mp3 player with radio and what bloomin’ fun we had trying to sort out putting music on it on xmas day!! One cd we had to convert from mp4 format to mp3 using a free dowloaded programme off the internet.
Good luck with it all!! xxxxx

Is it a Creative Sound one? I have two extremely proficient teenagers who can answer questions on that one.

Not entirely clear what you are trying to do.
Are you trying to find a download service (other than Itunes) for buying tracks?
If so, I can’t help as I have never used one. I can’t see the appeal – why wouldn’t you just buy the CD and rip it?
merry says
Well i probably would – but Max tends to like just getting the odd track he like (darned money savers, what can you do with them?)
SO i need a place to buy music that lets you easily lift them directly to the mp3 player. itunes seems to encode them o you can’t do it without putting them on to a cd first and then renaming them all and windows media player is unwieldy.
But i shall try tim’s suggestion.
