Son, be a den-en-tist….

October 24, 2005 by

Mmm.. guess where i went today? I really hate the dentist 🙁 In fact, though i’m not really a big fan of these things, i think i really might have to consider practising some sort of calming technique for the final 2 fillings, because todays was awful.

Granted i only had 3 hours sleep, thanks to Josie who was solidly awake between 1.30am and 5.30am. *Sigh* And granted i had only remembered the appt at 10pm last night and granted the Dentist, with some kind of mad, sadistic moment stuck his metal pointy thing into the cavity to show me which one he was going to do.

That really hurt 🙁 And made me cry and i shouted at him. AND it was a good 10 minutes before i could compose myself enough for him to do the filling and even then i shook all the way through. The nurse told him off too. 🙄 I think i’ll get myself dentally fit and then start paying for a Denplan dentist who speaks enough English to understand i do actually have a bit of a problem with all this.

Anyway, eventually got that over and went to retrieve girls from Tammy’s. Big thanks to Tammy for late notice sitting 🙂 They’d had a lovely time, but they were all very tired and i really wasn’t pleased with how little “give” they were doing. Poor Sam just wanted to play and they weren’t being very nice to him. I think they forget that he is still just a small really. I was a bit embarrassed. Sigh. Early beds happened tonight. Fran has been remarking wistfully about how much she liked Sam’s Lincoln Logs all afternoon.

Back home we did a few sums, a few sentences, a little reading, some dvds, made Beefburgers as part of my new “better food” campaign and gave a nod to the SOTW Roman cookery section. The burgers were great and all got eaten. Then Auntie Kate came round and they all played Sylvannian Families. Finished off with gym and then some more The Horse and His Boy. It’s has much tougher language than the other two, i think it’s going over their heads a bit.

I’m beat, it’s been a hard day. Driving home from delivering parcels, i saw fireworks going off and it gave me the chills. I think lots of diversion techniques are going to be required over the next week or two.

On the up side, Josie did two steps without holding on to anything today. It looked so strange!

BTW, Alison and Chris, Amelie has decided she wants to come and stay with Buttercup, without us. She is going to walk, apparently, so can you let me know when she arrives?

O, it’s horrible when the dentist hurts you, ouch! I got totally traumatised by this when i was pregnant and begged to see the other dentist in the practice, who eventually agreed.

I miss the dentists I had in Bury St Edmunds. It is a teaching practice and I was treated by a succession of enthusiastic, careful, competent, totally painfree to the point of being discomfort free, newly qualified dentists. Worth paying for privately …. except it was all on the NHS.

that’s funny because I was embarassed at the fact that sam wasn’t sharing very well!
    well done to josie!

I miss the dental practise I briefly had in Sheffield, for similar reasons to Tim. But I don’t think they could fund it, and it shut. I loathe going to the dentist.

We’ve got a healthy eating program running here as well, concentrating on the 5 a day approach. Did you come across the eat a rainbow website? Quite fun.

Oh Jax, so public health programs are ok, just not traffic regulations? 😉

Oh yeah, you are probably right actually… I better edit it. I was feeling a trifle sore about it all last night!

deepest sympathy on the dentist front… I’m still debating cancelling the next apointment cos the 2 he “mended” this time still hurt (and I don’t do pain!)

As for Horse and Boy, yes, the language is really hard isn’t it??? Prince Caspian is back to “normal” levels of English though which was a relief!

Thank you kindly for permission 😉

yeah katy, i made the mistake of remarking on the imperfection of my root canal after he’d finished and had to sit down again so he could look. Sob.

I hate going to the dentists too. Had a great one in Cardiff who helped me relax quite a bit and the last couple have been OK, but before that I had the dentist from hell and I’m really wary now.
Apart from eBay (and the postage puts me off) is there anywhere to get Lincoln Logs in the UK, cos I’ve thought for a while Mark might enjoy them but nowhere ships to here that I can find?
