Does C-A-T spell dog?

October 18, 2005 by

Maddy has made me laugh several times today and yesterday, the title being one (i think we may have a bit of work to do before she has “reading readiness” 😉 )

Even better was the conversation i overheard between her and Fran yesterday.
Fran: “… so then i tried to get in with Daddy and i did but he was squishing me out of the bed and i fell on the floor so i had to go in next to mummy…”
Maddy: (without so much as a flicker of intended comedy): “I know, he’s a rotten father…”

Giggle.

This added to Josie’s noctural escapade has had me looking for the sublime today; i really must get a grip on waking up properly at night of Josie will fall down the stairs soon. last night she was in with me; i heard he crying but i had hold of something which i thought was her ankle and i was just doing that “10 more seconds then i’ll wake up” thing. I suspect it was in fact rather more than 10 seconds as the wailing got rather persistant so eventually i roused myself. Turns out i haven’t got Josie’s ankle but a sleeping Fran’s elbow.. hmm.. so where’s Josie? Get up, start fumbling around and eventually locate her wedged between the mattress and the frame of the bed, which is a bit of a gap, as stuck fast as it’s possible to be and none too impressed. She looked like a scarecrow on a pole! Lol… took me ages to get her out and boy was she mad. She’d probably been there for hours. Bad mother. 😆

Anyway, today has be enjoyable. We’ve done normals; Maddy and i played with the base ten and did teens, she and i did a load of new word flowers and she wrote more sentences too. She is a pleasure to sit and work with, so quick and interested. I loved watching her get to grips with counting up and swapping 10 blocks for a bar. it was fun.

Fran and i did some Singapore maths; its a section of games and crosswords and she loved them. She finally figured adding double numbers up in her head and was well away with it. She read a couple of books to Amelie too.

Ams went to nursery again and the big girls and i did the review questions from SOTW. Very telling, i knew exactly what Fran was going to have remembered and she had. Lol. Then we got out a “Roman Fort” book and spent ages on that, all three of us and got lots from it. I knew it was a good random purchase! After that we looked at an Usborne Then and Now Clothes book. This really grabbed Maddy and she loved it.

The book’s representation of hunter gatherer clothes inspired her to make a spear (she kept forgetting the name though) from paper and a bit of wood. Then she went out hunting, while Fran and i sat in the cave stitching the wall hanging. She brought us back meat and skins and buckets of blood and even foraged for sunflower seeds for us. Guess she’s been listening then 😉 Fran found it highly amusing. She did some great stitching on the hanging, i was impressed. Once Maddy had collected us lots of food she used the buckets of blood (this is the girl who had no imagination at all once) and did us cave paintings; an excellent cave, a man and a bear fighting and some cherries. The house is adorned, i must take photos.

So it’s been a good day, finished off with dancing and some The Horse and his Boy. That story is making me laugh; i’ve noticed lots of its Arabic imagery before but hadn’t noticed the use of “poets” as a substitution for “prophets”.

Film tomorrow i think. BM keeping me busy, i’m way behind on answering emails, off to try and catch up now. 🙂

Snap I was having a bit of a giggle all the way through – specially you crouched sewing in a cave LOL (made out of blankets LOL) xxx I sent you a couple of emails I haven’t had replies to a while ago so you probably didn’t get them huh? I think one was about if you had a book on the quintessential Charlotte Mason. xx

Serves her right for going walkabout in the night i think. She’s learned her lesson, last night when she woke up she just sat on my head till i woke up 🙄
