All is calm

September 6, 2005 by

Had the bright idea of resurrecting the TT this week, who really isn’t a Temporary Teenager at all, so i shall call her S from now on. Booked her for 2 days this week, hoping this would get me back on track.

Girls suitably delighted and all has been very peaceful today. S can entertain them brilliantly so i’ve been able to get on with all my jobs. I’ve got a list, i’ve made good progress, the house is pretty tidy and i’m much more relaxed about things. i can think so much more clearly about stuff when i’m not fighting for space or tripping over things.

I’ve pretty much left them to it, it seemed appropriate to celebrate Maddy’s “first day” with a play day – but actually she has been quite busy with little bits and bobs. Fran has played Zoo Tycoon quite a lot; i’ve not got time to help her but she seems to be making good progress with it in a random sort of way. They’ve all played Cluedo (oh how i laughed when Maddy called Monopoly ‘Monotony’ the other day) and tried to play Sunken treasure, but we don’t have rules (can you possibly help out Sarah?)

After S had gone she and i worked together, me filing while she started ExTC Book 4 (compound words, piece of cake) and then 4 more quick tests. Sequences are a doddle, she was fine on “finding the difference” but my explanation left a bit to be desired to be honest. Funny how hard it can be to put that stuff into words. Multiplication came fairly easily once she remembered what she was doing and she did division for the first time ever and was fine, albeit using manipulatives. Its my goal to start doing much more hands on maths, it can be so busy here that workbooks are a quick method but it won’t do really.

EDIT: Aaah – Josie has fallen asleep on the floor, the middle two are out with Max, Fran and i have just read some HP1 while she stitched the end of her bookmark. The she read two paragraphs. She did so well, its all coming on so quickly now. perfect mummy daughter moment.

A quiet day for me left me lots of time for reflection but it would be inappropriate to blog it; just want to say again that i’m gutted by events elsewhere for real life/blog friends and wish i was there to cry with you. Still hoping against hope that it’ll be okay.

Off now to do more stuff and then to try and round up some Bronze Age resources and ideas. I’m placing an Usborne Order tonight; if anyone local or otherwise would like anything, please let me know 🙂 i’ve got a few special offers up my sleeves, i think!
