So, having proved myself to be the household thickie (will hastily justify this by saying i developed maths panic over it and felt the need to do the quiz at top speed but DID get the ages question right!), i don’t have much more to say really.
Frances is definitely growing up. In the last ten days she seems to have discovered boys, proper dancing, Google and now (shriek) e-commerce. Came down this morning to discover she had found herself an English Beanie site filled a shopping basket, worked out how much she needed to pay me, got out the money and put it on my desk and was already for me to just pay. And now that she has seen me do the all too easy Paypal payment, i’m slightly worried that she might do a £600 order tomorrow. Must remember to teach her some e-commerce manners! lol! That also precipitated a conversation about her email account (anyone who has children who might like to email her, its her name with my private address ending) – explained a bit about taking care on the internet to her, she seemed to take it in okay.
Been trying to clamber through the pile of washing/unpacking today – given i have a black bag full waiting for me at the bean’s house, i managed to do 5 loads today – ARGH… still the pile of crud is mainly reduced to a few last items now. Must pack even lighter next week. That is of course if we manage to go – Josie was sat right next to the pox-infected-one on Friday and so that means she’ll be infectious from when we are due to go away right up till when we are due to leave again. Can’t really see her not getting it either 🙁 She is miserable today – coldy, coughing and snotty and teeth too i think 🙁
Fran seemed to need to do some sit down stuff today and happily pootled through some of her preferred normals; she really likes Explode the Code and Nezert sums at the moment. She really wants to be able to do the vertical addition but i seem to be struggling to explain it in a way that helps her see the logic of carrying the 10 along – anyone got a sensible visual way of explaining this – i’ve tried showing her with rods but its just not making sense to her… or at least sometimes it seems to but then it evaporates again, which i guess means it hasn’t really made sense.
Other than that i left her to her own devices; she was loving browsing the beanie site and was cheerfully writing down the ones she wanted to save up for, in really nice writing (relatively speaking) and sounding out lots of things she had never read before too. That thrilled me; i’ve no desire to orchestrate her learning experience and i can see plenty of value in simply using an obsession as a self directed learning experience. Its I.T., or something 😉
Maddy was at nursery today; picked her up to be caught by the teacher as i’d asked about how to carry on signing with her. Apparently she has quite a flair for it (well, that much i’d grasped and it certainly fits with her visual learning style) so this teacher told me some books to look out for. Apparently the Listening Bus is coming on the 29th July, so must find time to visit that. I think it would be great to keep it up, all the girls like it and its a valuable skill. Fran can finger spell the Alphabet and that alone is helping with remembering what are vowels!
Ammi lounged a lot today. Feeling a bit bothered by her – she keeps saying she doesn’t want to be a big girl and asking if we love her… hmmmmmmm….
