I think it was algebra.

April 13, 2005 by

Frances: Maddy, work out this sum; what is 3 plus Frances?
Maddy: Hm. It’s still 3 plus Frances.
Frances: Noooo… it’s 3 Frances’s!!
Maddy: No, that would be what’s 3 lots of Frances. 3 PLUS Frances is just 3 plus Frances.
Frances: You’re wrong.
Maddy: Well, actually i’m right.

Okaaaaay…..

Anyway. (Apologies to Chris for the mundanity!) Today was okay really, tried to do something new, which worked, largely. Our new student was here; nice, VERY quiet, which i find quite hard, but a nice girl with her head screwed on okay, knows how to jiggle a baby and play with an Amelie. So we did baby bathing and Happy Street and so on, can’t think what Maddy was doing but she was gainfully employed somewhere while Fran made a really good stab at Lego Chess – its a good cd-rom, i’m impressed, in fact i migt even play it – with good graphics and a nice set of teaching tools. I sat with her for a while teaching her some “look one move ahead” type of moves and then she was off. For most of the day in fact.

Then we all went out to Sacrewell Farm and met up with Tammy and Sam. Which was lovely and i’m looking forward to being able to go lots this year. Lovely little simple farm, bits and bobs to look at and do but low key, really nice to just nip to for a while. Girls loved it. Tammy and i watched in slightly nervous amusement as Ammi and Sam hooked up and took off in what is undoubtedly the beginnings of a dubious alliance. Gulp.

Got to go and see my Aunt this weekend, who is an Optician Extra (like Tesco Extra but for eyes) – for a few months i’ve had a dark floating shadow following my eye movement, most obvious when i’m driving or looking at plain bright areas. Its suddenly occurred to me its something not to be messed with, so i better go and get it checked out. Ho hum.
