It's a Jolly Holiday with you, dear….

April 10, 2005 by

Highlight of the day was a trip to the garden centre… lol. Ah well, could be worse. Normally one of us dashes out with which ever child is most lacking in quality time but today we all went and actually, it was fun. It was nice weather here today so it was restful, the centre has pets and climbing frames and lots to look at. We had fun.

I was very restrained and only got a few foxgloves for a shady bit of the garden – i really don’t want to spend much more as i know it will inevitably tempt fate into us having to leave due to some landlord malarky. I did want a couple of bracken ferns but couldn’t find them. Basically i refuse to plant anything i can’t dig up and take with me! We succumbed to Weedkiller for the thistles out the front as they are refusing to be beaten by any other means. Also wanted Columbine seeds but couldn’t find those either. Humph.

Anyway, we came back, liberated the rabbits on to the lawn, where Button promptly made an utter hussy of herself *rolls eyes* and did a bit more planting. Decided to plant a bit of everything in the garden pots since the allotment will probably take a while to get sorted, so put in some radish, spring onions, lettuce leaves and shallots. Might do another few pots of sugar snaps as we have a plan now for the sunniest side of the garden which would give them a nice home.

The kids all had a nice day. Ammi and Maddy played Happy Street out on the patio again, they are REALLY getting on. I think the aquisition of new skills Fran has experienced has just pulled her away forward a bit – funny how you watch this happening with largish families; it seems to happen randomly among the 3, i suppose i’ll watch it happening among 4 too.

While i think about it, sometime in the next week or two, i want to think out some thoughts about my future as a “completed family” – it’ll be passworded purely because i don’t want to have to couch my thoughts in ways that try to avoid unintended pain for people i care about. The password will be “complete”. Anyone is welcome in but… well, i think the people who i am talking about will know what i mean, so i’ll totally understand if its a post you choose to pass by.

Other random stuff includes… had a phone call from my cousin the other day – as we talked she made some reference to the “new baby.” Eh? i said as last i heard she had miscarried and how :~( . Turns out it was one of twins and she got to 17 weeks without knowing about the other one. Well! So she is 30 weeks and no one had told me! *rolls eyes*

Oh yeah, remember my hair that i was moaning had turned almost black? So i dyed it red to cover the darkness streaked with grey.. well i looked at my hairline today and where it’s fallen out (as it always does after a baby, i currently have no fringe on one side) its going light blondy-brown again. I’m going to look like a tiger-zebra cross with a personality complex soon….

So, after that load of effort, what else? Oh yeah, Josie STILL fed all day, man is she making up for last weeks dishwater but she DOES like Apple Puree she’s decided, Ammi and i wrestled while watching Fantasia, i put language materials in my new Ikea set of mini drawers, Fran did more geo-designs, Maddy played something, oh yes, endless playdough. I’m reverting to cooked playdough, that cold recipe just doesn’t cut it. Too gloopy.

The we read about Cleopatra in a very nice Usborne book of the girls’ choosing and girded out loins (strap up your nethers, as a friend of mine used to say) for the imminent demise of The Faraway Tree thanks to some pesky root miners….

Fran is still singing Mary Poppins… a lot!

Just been watching “An Islamic History of Europe” done on BBC 4 by Ragi Omar; never occured to me he was Muslim. Never does with ‘African Black’ people for some reason, i find the concept of islam as a multi-race religion really hard to grasp for some reason. No idea why as clearly so is Chritianity, Judaism etc etc… And made me realize what an incredibly “Christian-ised” education i received; no mention of “the other sides point of view”. Ever. Sometimes I wonder just what my brain has been doing all these years. Mumble mumble… Made me positively ache to visit the middle of Spain though.
