I’ve done it now, Maddy is going to expect a whole different sort of home-ed experience i fear! Last night she asked me how cartoons are made, i told her that today i would show her, when we got back from ther home ed group trip to the museum. I couldn’t remember what we were going to do, but i knew that a day out was probably a good idea, so we braved the bus into town (gods, my children are so deprived, they thought that was SUCH a treat!) By a rather fantastic co-incidence the exhibition was on “sequences and the history of moving pictures” and as well as a show of Victorian magic lantern slides, there were zoetropes and lots of other things for making photos move. Amelie loved the spinning disk that makes two images combine, Maddy loved the Magic Lantern pictures that showed a rat running into a man’s (oh god, having hopeless indecision about that apostrophe) mouth and did a really good version of it for the zoetrope. Fran worked really hard on these:-
and when we got home she moved on to doing some sort of cartoon type efforts on paper i made for her.
The people are her first attempt at more realistic people, i gave her the Draw Write Now pilgrim page and she used it as a basis for that. I was quite impressed really, drawing is not her strong point.
We also looked at the Victorian Christmas and Minatures exhibition, tried on some Victorian clothes and then went up to the dinosaurs bit upstairs. Its a bit pathetic we’ve never been there, its quite a good museum. Must try harder. I’ve got a Grandma’s Attic story for tonight with a hooped skirt in it, so its quite cool that she tried one on today :~D
After that we mooched in town, had a treat lunch at Macdonalds, went to Woolies for stickers and picked up some half price leappad books (dinosaurs, Tigger and Thomas) and then got the bus back. Since we’ve got home Fran has drawn and listened to Big Toe Radio with some success. I’m struggling not to be mildly irritated that when i asked her to tidy up she instantly started crying about Peter again. I’m kind of inclined to be fairly brisk about it because if we have to face Button dying next week too, i really don’t think i can handle a whole fortnight of despair.
