I've had a really weird day.

January 6, 2005 by

I must have not had enough sleep or something, i’ve felt like i’m moon walking all day.

Started off with a phone call from the playgroup i’d put Ammi’s name down for. I thought it started at age 3, so was expecting her to maybe go in September, but i’d more or less decided not to send her. So then they phone and she can go from 2 years 9 months, and before i know what i’m doing, i’ve agreed to take her for a trial next week. I really must get more assertive/throw off my inclination to do as i’m told. Still, she may like it and its at the farm. We shall see.

Then the phone goes again and its someone called Josephine, which threw me for a start. And it turns out she is this terms student, who i didn’t know i was getting. AND… she has a 3 year old and she’s 48!!!! Anyway, she sounds nice and a sensible pair of hands will be handy; i told her she was welcome to bring her daughter when she didn’t have childcare. What’s one more child in the general throng?

Anyway, lunch time arrived and simultaneously Maddy had a total wee/lunch/handwashing meltdown, Ammi took a mouthful of hot rice, choked and threw up and Josie was absolutely screaming for food. I so know what Alison meant when she said about running just to stay in one place, the only way this place will ever be up to date is if i get a Boot Camp Officer into this place. Washing everywhere, stuff everywhere. Lol. Still we got through. Fran was a star and served everyones rice up and Maddy discovered she does like rice after all.

We’ve been out, i got lost in Pboro delivering beads to a strange address and felt like i was driving with blinkers and no wing mirrors, i don’t know what was up with me but i just felt really odd driving. Had two peculiar HE conversations in the soft play, one with a subsequently very nice grandad who asked me “how i got away with it?” initially and another with the daughter of the owner who has given up teacher training cos she felt it was so “wrong” to be forcing 7 year olds to do all day in a room with no toys. Good on her, i say.

Hmmm.. Education. Actually its been a good day again. I sat with both girls first thing doing normals and all of us enjoyed that. Maddy was GREAT, she seems to be really responding to that opportunity. Fran is way beyond the maths she is doing but she is getting the hang of the words in the book, dying to move her on to something more interesting but concious over pulling her too hard. Fran and Ammi had a bath, Maddy and i played Cariboo which is simple but kind of fun so thats quite a lot of 1-2-1 she has had this week. So now i just need to fit some in for Amelie! When Fran came down she played with this tangram set from Brightminds (and may i say that whoever told me about that place is likely to have brought about my undoing!) She found it really hard (well so did i!) but we enjoyed just following the solutions actually, plenty of geometric discussion in that. (Right angles at least got covered!) And then Maddy got out the pentominos and discovered out flat “f”s are like our 3D ones and totally enjoyed turning them all into ducks!!! And now they are watching more HCA. (Oh yes, AND we watched more blooming jolly phonics today!!)

Speaking of which, i got my new Hama catalogue and placed another order today, hopefully in time for the new updated, shopping carted BM, coming soon to a computer near you, next week. And 2 kits they AREN’T releasing over here are 2 HCA ones – argh!!!! I WANT! *stamps foot* But i have ordered in the new pirates, glow, dino world and safari ones. Plus lots of the 3 new boards, midi frogs and maxi whale and sea turtle. And i’d like your opinion, i was going to donate money to the Tsunami appeal for every one of the new designs sold in January and February but is the fact they are all water related offensive at all? Its seems slightly unfortunate but i can’t decide….? I’ve got an invite to a toyfair at the end of January/….. ooooooh.
