Made it safely through the week.

December 10, 2004 by

Thought today was going to go a bit wrong first thing really – a general selection of fighting, bickering etc but we managed to pull it round thankfully. Not quite sure how really but we did.

First off, they all sat and watched the JP videos i got from ELC with the 20% discount and those seemed to go down well. Hoping it might kick Fran through a few digraphs as she seems to really struggle with letter blends. For one thing, most of them are really hard for her to pronounce. She seemed to enjoy them anyway and read a lot from the screen too. So that was all good.

Then we settled down to some more Christmassy stuff. Maddy threw an utter tantrum about it all being “boring” and went off to cry in her bed for a while but then came down and did most of the MP cards. She was chuntering away to herself for ages and i suddenly realized she was presenting Tikabilla! Lol, she certainly had the patter down, that was for sure. Fran did a load more stockings in hama for our cards and i made some Mr and Mrs Christmas’s, Amelie played on both leappads, did train tracks, did sticking etc etc and then helped me for ages with the washing sorting etc.

Tonight we have read the story from Baldwin’s 50 Famous Tales of Dick Whittington, which is now annoying me because i can’t remember if Newgate prison was built on a famous site or has something famous built on its site. Brought back memories anyway of being very young when my dad used to drive me into the city sometimes, where he worked, and point out Dick Whittington’s house. I’m completely oblivious now as to what that would have been, i shall have to go and ask him.

Girls and Max had an extremely involved conversation over dinner about God, Heaven and various dead relations. Was slightly bewildered to hear Fran say “she is up in the sky in heaven with God. He took her there because he is very powerful and can do anything.” Fair enough. Not entirely sure where its come from really but there you go. And then Maddy, the ever practical saying “HOW can dead people be alive in the sky?”

Car is back home; it had a tiny fuel leak but nothing else obviously wrong. Remains to be seen if that is in fact all it was.

All in all its been a good week, 4 days on my own out of 5 and quite bearable, even quite ordered and productive. Its been nothing like as scary as i expected; clearly i am a natural ;~). And after next wednesday, Max is off till the New Year, by which time i hope things will be a lot calmer too. HV asked me the other day if Josie was into a feeding routine now. ROFL – as if!

I’m currently looking at Spark island to see the learning goals the NC would have Fran and Maddy pointing at, just so i can see my way through a few “next obvious stages” in the new year – i’ll be blogging but just ignore it :~D You know me well enough by now.
