Best laid plans of mice and men…

Typical – first time in ages i have been thoroughly organised and my children entertain themselves happily without me for the whole day :~D Just as it should be i suppose.

It was lovely watching and listening to them – they had some elaborate game going on with playdough and cutters (those Lakeland ones were £10 well spent!) and it lasted forever. Maddy was fastidiously cutting shapes with the patience of a master baker, Fran was making a “letter shop” (and incidentally i found a page of the alphabet written out as well, which is good as her alphabetical order is not really something she knows yet – i think she copied it from the side of the box of cutters) and Ammi was involved in some strange bartering thing that was going on. They were buying and selling with real money, replenishing stocks and all in all it seemed to go great. Its lovely to hear Ammi joining in these games; her imaginative play is really well developed, she totally joins in, colaborates, uses pretend names etc etc – i love hearing her.

(How lovely is that skirt!)

Some of the body stuff got done; first thing the elder two spent ages on the DK Body Explorer game and had a lot of fun and at the end of the day they built the body skeleton with much hilarity. Fran made a cotton bud skeleton too and was delighted with him. So thank you Sarah for blogging this project earlier in the year since i picked it bones remorselessly!!!!! I’ve not done any of the reading and learning i was going to do with them yet but we can carry it on through the week.

(Must change this when the glue dries!)

I’ve added an extra bit to my CM planner blog from this week; i’ve found it really useful to have it as a tick list of what we have read so i thought i would add in some other CM elements now too, basically just art, maths, writing, reading and science in a list so i can put a star by them if we do any of that. I’m not going to be worried if we don’t, because i like the week having a flow of its own but it might help me to see that “something” has been done over the next few weeks, even if its just one reading book, or whatever.

The day ended with some town planning. This was Fran’s, she added a volcano to it later as well!
