Well that takes the sting out a bit.
Just been to collect Moo and have discovered that they have decided to move her to a new classroom next year and she can go for full days on monday and tuesdays with wednesday as optional; thursday and friday will be given to other children so there is not pressure to “up” her days to full on “reception” level. I think classroom moving would have been my preference but i didn’t want to decide it (iyswim) and its a room that does quite a lot of nice stuff like Van Gogh style painting with thick paint etc – its also a classroom i don’t quite like the ambience of so much as this years for some reason, so i think i will feel less inclined to stick it out for the year. So in effect i have got pretty much my best case scenario for her staying there. Now so long as i can sort out the taxi and stuff its in place if i want it i think. We shall see.
Fran and i have had a nice day. She’s done endless more number squares, wordsearches etc – i have a place she can find them on her own and she just went and did them unasked or prompted today. She also did several mathsy type things that required a bit of reading and i was very pleased to see she could manage all the how many’s, more, less, number, write, type stuff with pretty much no help at all. Its really that level of “self ableness” that the last few weeks have been aimed at, so it looks like its working quite well. We started on the Reception level Maths CGP book together and that was a piece of cake but did give her the reading opportunities. I’m surprised and pleased with those books actually, which is nice :~D
After that we got on to some far more interesting stuff – i read her “The Coming of the Romans” from OIS (Our Island Story) and that rung lots of bells from the Melrose trip and subsequent Roman interest. We had a long chat about bravery and violence too. After that we read the Just So – How the Whale got its Throat story which was a riot! I liked that a lot!!! We’ve saved it to read again with Moo tonight.
I also printed out a flower fairy poem for her and put it into a paper frame which she decorated with pressed flowers we did the other week – the result is pretty. We had a go at memorising that (not terribly sucessful but still!) PNEU school days involved lots of poetry reciting, i used to love the poems but wasn’t so keen on reciting the Bible.
I sent Fran out on to the drive to take pictures of our wealth of what i “think” are Hollyhocks too – here is the best of them. Shame there isn’t a flower fairy poem to match given they are currently the sum total of the flowers we possess! Maybe we could write one…
Had a really nice start to the morning with Moo who read 4 Bob books to me and seemed to be doing quite a lot of word reading and then i read her a Ladybird book – i don’t do enough of that. She and i also made our own pattern to colour in – she won’t colour it because she likes it to be “perfect” so she directed me! lol! Fran is still doing her pad of them. Ammi has been playing all day with dollies and goodness knows what else!
