Another decent day

Well, despite only getting 5 hours sleep thanks initially to Max waking me up cos he needed my keys about 3 minutes after i had fallen asleep (they were in my bag… WHO would have thought of looking there!) and then Ammi itching till goodness knows when, we managed another good morning.

First of all, Fran reread me the three Bob books she did yesterday and got the majority of it righht – without it being glib so i am pretty sure it was proper reading rather than recall. Then she settled down to a couple more wordsearches. This time i cut these out and stuck them to the top of lined paper i drew out the other day (i’ve uploaded it below for anyone who is having similar problems finding!) and then after she had found the words she wrote them out. And did fairly well, although we discovered that she is loads happier doing capitals than lower case, so i might just allow that for now to build her confidence. She also started a search i did for her with a mixture of words from the first 4 Bob books and although she didn’t finish it she was quite happy to read me the list of words correctly. So all in all thats going well! I do regret the high handed attck on these skills a bit but tbh, if i don’t do it now and she happens to be someone who DOES need it, then the opportunity is going to languish for some time really. I’m planning on having a fairly “worky” summer with them both and then having November and December as lapbook/craft/practical life type time.

Fran also filled in several pages of a Letterland writing workbook and while she was doing that Moo did some nice Early Learning Letts ones too – all lines to copy and trace, but she seemed to enjoy it. She has the oddest pencil grip though – she tries to hold the pencil in her hand and sort of under it – most peculiar! Moo is currently at the “I attend a nursery and everyone is talking about ‘big school’ and i want to go too” stage…well with Fran this really threw me but with Moo i’m afraid it just doesn’t! She tends to follow the pack anyway for one thing, the panic-stricken mummy brainwashing is bound to rub off on kids and well, Moo being in nursery would seriously mess up our life! lol! So she can go when she can get herself there!

While Moo was out Fran and i mooched, having worked pretty hard this morning really, and then read 2 Chapters of The Snow Queen and she played World Explorer for quite a while – and did very well too – she was trying really hard to remember the different continents and listen to the clues.

So – that’s literacy, geography, IT, history (if you count the discussion on Kay and Gerda’s lifestyle) PE (because we watched daddy play cricket and they ran about lots!) and oh… what would you class “classic story telling” as? :~)

Ammi has learned to say her own name, “bottle” “potty” and oh.. something else!

I’ve got burn out- i don’t think i could handle this so full on every single day!
