Hours of Numeracy and Literacy
I’m exhausted!!!!!
Among other things, i’ve been trying to utilise our mornings a bit better. So today, when Fran asked for more word searches, I supplied them! (See below!) I’m basing them at the moment on the phonetic development of the First Bob Books series which is what she is working through. She could “read” this two years ago, but clearly she couldn’t really and was doing more what Moo is doing now “reading the pictures” with a bit of word recognition thrown in. Anyway it worked very well and she did 4 of them; we checked through the word lists before and after and she did great with sounding them out. Far less random mistakes and guessing too. Then she read 3 Bob books that were new to her as well.
I was most delighted.
After that we printed out the maths “number bonds cards from here and got her to spend some time using them with her maths rods to make up the number bonds. Once she has got a bit of a clue with those we can use them to play the game. I’m gonig to do them with Moo at the same time. Could use a few other ideas for this sort of thing too really.
While all this was going on Moo was drawing and making videos! She cracked me up a while ago by doing photos of a 3d pentomino shape and spending ages setting up the shot and making sure it was uncluttered – i ought to encourage this! lol!
She also read to me again – I’m going to get the matching cards out again tomorrow and see if the words are sinking in at all. She’s certainly very fast from the books – i need to come up with a plan for letter learning really… feeling a bit stumped there. I’m desperate to have them reading by October, at least a bit, so they can have some independance. So that gives me just about 4 months! (Gulp!)
Ammi was also very lovely; she drew and played babies and was generally pretty lovely – she is just starting to come out of the “climb on and trash everything anyone is doing” phase – i have it all to go again though!!!!
I planned to do the stories from below over lunch but we were a bit pooped; Fran sewed while watching The Snow Queen (the point of the paper version being to compare the two!)and i sorted the craft cupboard. We can start the history tomorrow. I’ve succumbed to a list of history books from Sonlight (but no “How to” manual) which i am hoping to build up some resources for over the next few months and then use in a FIAR sort of way while breastfeeding!
The bunk beds are up and look great – one extra bed – hurrah!
