Catching up again

Hmmm… not been very good at blogging this week – so i will do a quick catch up now. Tbh – there is not an enormous amount to report – Fran has been “very” into workbook and ladybird reading books this week, which is great in terms of covering basics but not all that interesting to blog about. She has been using these Letts 5-6 books – 10 minute tests, and doing fairly well. She quite enjoyed the realisation that she COULD in fact do the maths by using her abacus and a set of sums which were X + 7 = 17 and so on amused her very much – but she did seem to grasp that it was requiring her to add 10 not 1 and did them all.

The biggest improvement was this weekend which we have spent at Grandad’s (Max’s dad and Step mum) – having got there we realized that we hadn’t brought anything for them to “do” and they aren’t really set up for kids, so Moo and i popped out to the local Tesco and got the Special Edition Lion King (£10 on dvd! Bargain!) and a load of BBC magazines, pens and writing pads. Fran has loved the Magic Key one, played with the magnifying glass/pen lots and been a ” ‘tective” finding clues. After a while she brought the pad (one with a page of lines you put under each sheet) and dictated a sentence of clues, which i wrote out and then she copied it. She did really well – small, legible writing and seemed to be able to read it back.

Cor, this child led learning is good! lol!

Next week is going to be a bit different as Moo is on half term – she is going to a couple of drop in days at nursery as she has been so week on/week off the last few weeks i don’t want her to get upset by her routine going too wrong- half terms can be BAD. We have a couple of play days with friends planned, skating and hopefully a trip out. Pud has a Rainbows disco at the weekend. Rainbows seems to work very well for her now, i am so glad we stuck out the scary moment and kept at it. We also have a trip to visit her surgeon on Friday, which is obviously bothering me as i dreamt last night she had an operation where he opened up her chest and she died (oddly Alison i dreamt your mum was the nurse who told me), but i really don’t know WHY it is bothering me as i am not expecting anything other than go away and come back in two years! lol! I doubt much will be done now till she is 10, although i have noticed that as she gets older her scar round her nose is getting slightly more noticeable. Not enough to worry about though.

Hmmm… what else – oh yes – we have been out a good bit this week- a soft play trip out, HE group ice skating, HE group on Friday which involved a big Pirate role play and HUGE fun was had. One of the big girls then ran a drama group whih both Fran and Moo joined in with and sang and improvised stuff for. Hey Alison what about a Youth Theatre for P and T?

Oh YES – very big news… wait for it wait for it……..

Moo passed her Grade One skating!!!!!! BLESS!!!!!!!!
