Continuing my random planning rambling…

Maths
So…. having rambled below about Fran’s maths, it occurs to me that i can probably go over similar ground with Moo without any stressed being added – and when i say go over ground, i am not planning anything more than games, computer games, car chat and manipulatives – Moo might take an interest in soem of the workbooks/sheets we have about – i am not sure. I fancy laminating some of the miquon pages to have available to use and i have set up a sort of mini maths lab over the xmas break – its got the rods, paper numbers, base ten set, nezert books, pentominos, puzzle sums odd and even counters and cylinder boxes in it atm. I made cards for learning place value up to 9999 today to go in it and a tens and teens board. I really want to find two books that are part of the Miquon series that i borrowed once – i can’t find them to buy anywhere – one was teacher notes i think and one was the authors diary – i found that particularly inspiring. I need to investigate those games for cuisinaire rods as well and i would also like to start using Eduss a bit more. But those really are goals for the year – i am in no rush to push it as i feel over all its going pretty well and i don’t want to spoil things. Its nice to get resources you have back to the forefront of your mind sometimes though isn’t it! I love the fact that Fran is interested in the multiplication tables so i fancy copying Alisons idea for that and making some game cards. (Actually Alison you don’t happen to have ready made files to hand do you???? ;~))

Reading and Writing
This is a bit tougher really – Fran is quite angry that Moo is catching her up here and its making her not want to try. I am effecting EXTREME relaxation about this and certainly with writing that is working. Gradually she is getting more confident and thats really nice. I think with reading i might go back to our Bob books as they are so short and unthreatening. With Moo, well Reader Rabbit is a big hit but i would like to try getting her using letter sounds and names too – she seems to have bypassed those and gone straight on to words! She would probably not have much problem with a bit of writing as a game, she is quite neat and precise and would probably like that.

Those topics

Whales and Dolphins – this seems fairly easy, The Blue Planet, DK Animal, various cd roms and the Ocean Watch book are providing plenty of variety – she seems quite keen on a species based approach but it might be interesting to look at the oceans and what groups of species hang out together. I think i might do the OU Blue Planet course just for fun!

Spanish – well we can put the cds back in the car and have a look at some flashcards and sites – i better brush up!

Egypt – well we have craft stuff and several books and a model pyramid and the perfect opportunnity to tie it into some of our bible stories so that ought to work – hopefully we can get into that when the ocean life interest starts to give out.

Henry – ARGH – honestly i don’t know WHAT else to do here – i think i have a few ideas stashed on MP though so i guess i will have to think – but we do have a dress to make that will be good fun. I have a feeling that she is about to get very into “the body” as she has the usborne “How your body works” book in her room, she has made a few references to solar system type things and then it won’t ber long till its garden time again. Moo is particularly keen to do some “seed growing”.
