I had one of those moments today where you sort of find yourself momentarily living the life you thought you would have but that doesn’t actually happen very often. It was, well, nice.
Continued with my resolve not to sit at the pooter first thing but to save it to later in the day. Temporarily at least, its becoming a bit like a well held diet; the longer you don’t eat chocolate, the easier it is not to eat it. Anyway, i think the children appreciated it.
Started off with doing Fran’s “normals” with her – she whizzed throguh some tables and writing and then read a LadyBird Level 2 Factual Book, the Stars and planets one, which she really enjoyed and could mostly handle. We had quite a lot of interesting conversations; had another ermmmmm…… moment – if neptune is made of gas, why is it a planet and not a star??? Hmmm… Anyway, i really like those books; nicely written and illustrated and great jumping off points. In among that we discussed Greek Gods (along with listening to those i am also reading them to them at night atm), left handedness, miscarriage (odd one but it came up ,not sure why) and a variety of other fairly grown up and interesting topics. She did a variety of stitching too and was inspired by Maddy to start making a square money box, which she is now two panels into.
This took her quite a bit of the day really but i was really pleased with how hard she worked.
Maddy also did one of them too – i was amazed by this, no help, no difficulty at all apart from a couple of rethreadings of needles (knitting pin, as she called it!)
Maddy got me to help her make a money box – it was one of those fraught moments but i’d resolved to answer her every need today, so we hashed something up.
I bet Maddy would really enjoy doing nets of boxes actually *must make time to show her*
Last week Maddy spotted these doll blanks in a box and asked to make a dolly with a reversible head (smily one side, frown the other) so we did it today. Damn i’m good!
She also read me the first Peter and Jane book really well; i was trying to catch her out and couldn’t so i think she must have really been recognising the words. So all that was good.
Ammi played with J, Josie got a bath and two lots of solids today.
Generally, it just all seemed very pleasant.
Mind you, we then watch Pocohontas 2 – ARGH!!!!!!!!! James VI married to Elizabeth I FFS!!!!!! nevermind a complete absense of the abduction/rape/death while escaping side of the story. Jeeez, no wonder we have insane wars – its all DISNEYS fault!!! How can anyone understand their world when that kind of insanity is done to historical fact???????????? Spent most of it telling the girls just how inaccurate it was and relating the grim truths of bear baiting… ho hum.. must get out my Pocohontas and Squanto books….
Edit: Pocohontas Link
